ST. THOMAS USVI – President of the St Thomas/St John Horse Owners’ Association Mr Wystan Benjamin expressed that races were very competitive during the first leg of the Triple Tiara Crown held at the Clinton E. Phipps racetrack in St Thomas, United States Virgin Islands yesterday, September 15, 2013.

He related that the entrants, some of which were on debut, did not pull any surprises but came forward and did very well.

Benjamin was also pleased with the attendance given the fact that the races were postponed from the previous weekend, “The attendance was ok it was pretty good, actually it was very decent considering that we had to postpone the race from last week. I know we had quite a few people who came last week and the races were postponed which was a pity,” Benjamin said.

Meanwhile, President of the VI Horse Owners’ Association was also ecstatic about the races and described it as "great". She was especially pleased at the performance of debut horse, Leave It To Bern, that won the fifth race of the day.

Leave It to Bern broke the track record over the one mile and 40 yards distance emerging as winner in a time of 1:43s. The horse was one of twelve debutants during the races.

In the second race, What’s Popping won in a time of 1:37.21 while Good Boy Daddy (Tortola) placed second and Extra Brew placed third.

All Country (Tortola) placed fourth in a field of four during the third race after two horses were scratched. Warriors Cove was the victor in a time of 1:43 in the One Mile race for Class C horses while second place went to Tiger Glider and third place went to Schatt The Bandit on debut.

Slevin was scratched for the fourth race but Swagg Daddy defeated Bambi Bound in the open 6 furlongs sprint (match race) in a time of 1:08.6.

Stephen Got Better won the feature mare race, The Queen’s First Dance one-miler, in a time of 1:40.4. Mae Ruler emerged in second place, Imperial Award (St X) placed third and Obabyobeyme came in fourth while One Eye Cap, also on debut, placed fifth. Turned To Gold was scratched for the race.

Edge Ahead, another horse on debut, won the final race of the day in front of Twisted Dream, Mr Gold Prospect, Diablo’s Fire and Winaholic.

The second leg of the Triple Tiara Crown will be run on October 27, 2013 during the Liberty Day holiday weekend.
