Sandra Honore, the head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, issued a statement this week expressing concern over recent incidents of violence in the areas of Cite Soleil and Cap Haitien.

The UN “urged everyone in the country to work towards ensuring a peaceful society.”

Honore specifically referenced violence and killings perpetrated in Cite Soleil and violent incidents around schools in Cap-Haitien.

“Such crimes are particularly disturbing as they endanger the safety of all, and the social peace that Haiti needs to move forward on the path of strengthening rule of law and socio-economic development,” she said in a release.
The UN has been working to support the development of the Haitian National Police, something Honore called a “most critical task” for MINUSTAH.
