50% increase in new HIV cases reported in VI- Levons-Clarke

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The National AIDS Programme is reporting that there has been a 50% increase in new cases of HIV reported in the Virgin Islands (VI) over the last year and that 30 percent were over the age of 60.

Health Workers now ready to administer HIV Rapid Tests

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In continued efforts to strengthen the health sector’s response and treatment of HIV/AIDS, over 70 health workers throughout the Virgin Islands received training on how to administer an HIV Rapid Test to clients accessing health care services following Provider Initiated HIV Testing and Counselling training sessions.

99 cases of HIV/AIDS in the Virgin Islands, 35 dead!

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Appearing before the 2012 Standing Finance Committee (SFC) National AIDS Coordinator (NAC) Mrs. Noelene Levons-Clarke, told the members that in the Virgin Islands since June 1985 up until December 2011, there were 99 cases of HIV/AIDS reported to the Ministry of Health and Social Development. She further stated that of the 99 cases there were 35 AIDS related deaths so 1/3 of the infected persons have passed on which left a total of approximately 64 reported cases in the Territory.

Youth summit tour prelude to World AIDS day

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - In observance of World AIDS Day 2011, the National AIDS Programme of the Ministry of Health and Social Development will be conducting a National Youth Summit Tour to all secondary and tertiary educational institutions in the Virgin Islands.
