Ambassador Wheatley blasts PM May

LONDON, England, UK - It was on May 24, 2018, that the Virgin Islands (VI) diplomat E. Benito Wheatley told Prime Minister of Great Britain the Rt. Hon. Theresa M. May at Number 10 Downing Street that the “United Kingdom (UK) Government has undermined the partnership between the VI and the UK at a critical time when the islands remain extremely vulnerable and are recovering from two devastating category 5 hurricanes in 2017, while preparing for an active 2018 hurricane season.”

Theresa M. May gambled and lost on June 8, 2017. This, despite her Conservative party winning the most seats in Westminster. May lost the expectations game. She called the general Election to strengthen her parliamentary majority. She said that she needed to gain a stronger majority to strengthen her position in upcoming Brexit negotiations. Instead, May saw lost seats. Theresa M. May’s Conservative Party will have to form a coalition government. Her move has backfired terribly.

May of the Conservative Party aka Tories failed to secure the 326 seats outright majority she needed in Parliament to form another government and will now seek to stay in power with a coalition government with the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).

Brexit & the Woman of Steel!

Now, the real tragedy of Brexit, in this Old Boy’s opinion, is that it diminishes all UK citizens, subjects, and nationals – and that includes Overseas Territory Citizens of Britain, such as Virgin Islanders. It offers British Citizens a future that is hard to envision, and unpredictable. It reduces the opportunities of present and future generations of playing a full role in the world’s largest economic, cultural, and social bloc: The European Union.
