ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Word just reaching our newsroom from our well-placed sources within the Ministry of Education and Culture is that the controversial Minister for Education and Culture Hon Myron V. Walwyn has reportedly recommended through his Permanent Secretary that Ms Connie George, an Education Officer within the Department of Education, is to be named the new Acting Chief Education Officer.
UPDATE: Education CEO apologises for “misunderstood” circular
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – On January 9, 2014, this news site had published the reactions of several persons, including representative of the First District, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie, to a circular that was sent out by the Department of Education captioned ‘Visitation, Donations and Non-school sponsored events’. This apparently prompted Chief Education Officer (ag.) Mrs. Jillian M. Douglas-Phillip to subsequently issue a public apology.

Education Ministry to focus on Reading for 2012/13 school year
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- During a meeting held with teachers of the territory and Education Officials, Acting Chief Education Officer (CEO) Jillian Douglas-Phillip, in realizing that the reading skills of the territory’s students aren’t on the level they should be, stated that one of this year’s aim for the Education Ministry is to focus on reading in the schools to improve literacy in the territory.
