Everywhere I turn is like I have a shadow behind of me – Walwyn

- Minister Walwyn jabs at former Minister Fahie
Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Myron Walwyn (left), during the budget debate, raised an issue of non-elected members allegedly being included to speak on programmes in a Government capacity. This statement particularly captured the attention of Hon. Andrew Fahie.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The budget debate in the House of Assembly took an un-expected turn on Friday March 23, 2012 when Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Myron Walwyn, raised an issue of non-elected members allegedly being included to speak on programmes in a Government capacity.

His statement particularly drew the attention of 1st District Representative Hon. Andrew Fahie, who asked if someone needed to be elected to be included as a speaker on a programme.

“Madam Speaker, since we talking about programmes and getting on programmes, I remember on the campaign, I don’t know if it was me, that talk bring talk. Madam Speaker I can recall coming in to this office, my very first press conference Madam Speaker, I asked for the itinerary so I could see who speaking- on the itinerary Madam Speaker, would you believe it had somebody speaking there who was not elected, who lost the elections, was on that programme to speak in a Government capacity?” Walwyn told the House of Assembly.

Hon. Walwyn also made reference to an event in the 8th District, where he alleged that a non-elected member, was included on a programme to speak. “It looks to me that Madam Speaker, that some people don’t remember that November 7 happened and so they don’t have respect for the people.”

He said he admired the former opposition members because they allowed the Government to do its work.

At this point Former Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Andrew Fahie said he was concerned about Minister Walwyn’s statement. “If they were on the programme, Madam Speaker, are we saying that in this country that unless you elected you cannot be on a programme to speak, even if you lost an election? Because this is the tenor in which I hear coming out, Madam Speaker, I don’t believe we reach to this point in our country. I want the Minister to clear that up for me to make sure that he is not saying that.”

Hon. Walwyn said he was not saying that. “The person contributed from the Government caucus, lost the elections, and ended up on the programme. ...the point I am making, Madam Speaker, is that we are getting trip up and my legs are long. Everywhere I turn is like I have a shadow behind of me. I had to check the itinerary before somebody sneak themselves on to it.”

The argument was then broken up by the Speaker of the House as the members began responding to each other.

Yea Myron, In all honest, that issue that you raise there is silly, stop using the Honorable House to throw words, use your time wisely and represent the people well. Save your bickering and silliness for when you meet each other on the street and even then it would be inappropriate. Don't make me lose respect for you now, get your act together. I hope you all realize you will give God an account one day for every idle word. Come on man, Grow UP!!! When I was a child I spake as a child, I understood as a child, but when I became an adult, I put away childish things.......

Come on Myron Mr. Fahie is big enough so, if he is following you I am sure you will see him sooner or later. Stop acting like a kid with your paranoia and drunk with power Mr. Myron. The BVI is not a dictatorship. Dancia and Fahie were speaking in this country long before we ever heard about you! Did you see what they did to Dictators in the Middle East?? Ok Then!!!! go slow boss and last long! Hurry dog eat raw meat.

If he is saying that a FORMER elected representative is speaking in a capacity that can be 'assumed' to be in a Government capacity, then he is right. The article is not written properly enough for people to understand exactly what Myron is referring to. He is not an idiot, he must know what he speaks of. I will listen to HOA myself when it's played to find out exactly what he's talking about. If Myron has read this, I hope he puts out a statement to clarify because what I gather from the article itself doesn't glean to good on his part so he better clarify if this is not the case.

I heard him speak. He was talking about former ministers and elected members appearing at press conferences and the like and talking as if they were still in government, and he was by inference referring to the previous minister of education, who he feels is stalking him.

I spoke to Dr. Smith about these Ministers of his who are in front of the camara every minute. They need to chill out and stop the weening. Myron, Pickering and KMARK must believe that they are in Holly- wood.

That is the way some Black men operate when given power. I wish there was a way we could take back our votes. Never mind. Four years is not so long anymore. If you dont believe me, ask the VIP.

Did Dancia ask to be included on the program or was she invited? I can't see why she would try to be included on the program if she wasn't invited! None the less, it was in poor taste the way the present 8th District Rep. handled the situation and one that will eventually haunt him in his political career. Young man you have 3 years to correct your current trend and make all of us that gave you a chance by voting for you not second guess our decision.

it sound to me like the minister of Ed & cul. seems to have a vanteta against the former Minister of Ed & Cul. because I notice that he is very agressive at HOA and when he speaks about education some thing is always pointing fingers at the former minister of Ed. Why, I thing if you see something is not wright, bring the matter up and give a solution but he the Minister should not make an attack on the member. If you do good we will re-elect you but do not camp ain against the member so soon. You might very well upset the Voters. Behave Sir.

Myron is damn right. I am sick of Andrew. He need to sit his behind down and let the Government do their work because he was not unproductive when he was suppose to be working he was allowing Tom, Dick and Harry to distract him with their bad hand out habits.

Oh, Myron is so right. Andrew is making me sick right about now. Let him go and answer to the people who elected him in the 1st District and stop concentrating on the Ministry of Education. We have a Minister and he is doing a dawn good job. Right now the Minister also needs to see how he can handle some of those cronies of Andrew own that is in his Ministry because if some of them stay there, Andrew will always be in his mix.

I agree with Honourable Walwyn. I'm almost confused as to who is the Minister of Education and Culture. It seems Andrew is on Myron like white on rice on every educational issue. When Andrew was there, no one challenged his record. He was respected in his capacity and it is now time for him to respect Myron now. Let the Virgin Islands(British) community be able to hear our current Minister of Education on his futuristic plans for the Ministry, Andrew, like ALREADY!

But Andrew has a responsibility to the people as well. And he right the study needs to span more than 3 years. Also, based on what was said on campaign trail and what was done with that same study, wouldn't you clarify yourself too? You all need to be fair. Cause all of them does justify themselves... All. Only thing some does scream and be disrespectful while doing it.

He is just as vindictive as a former leader I know. No respect for democracy at all. Take it from me brother this is your first and will definately be your last. Your EGO is to big for this country and you need to take it to a place like San Francisco where you will find your other companions and then you can discuss such matters of being so ANTI democratic.

It did not take long for the trappings of power and status to take hold. Power and status inflates egos. And the inflated egos are on display. It appears as if some representatives are surprise to be in the position that they are. Take a chill pill and arrest the ego. Eat some humble pie. Focus your energy on maintaining and improving our standard of living and quality of life.
