CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, USVI - Going into the runoff for Governor of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) with a new election set for Tuesday, November 18, 2014 on St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix Delegate to Congress Honourable Donna M. Christensen (D) has closed the gap on front runner and Independent candidate Kenneth E. Mapp.

While a runoff is already official and will take place next week as more votes were contended that include absentee ballots the Delegate to Congress was able to reduce the lead of Mapp to a few thousand votes from the almost blow-out in the early results days after the elections for Governor.

It means then that the Christensen-Ottley team will have a chance because of the November 10, 2014 updated results released by the USVI Board of Elections. The latest results show the gap has now been substantially reduced to a mere two thousand, three hundred and twenty (2320) votes.

The results are as follows;

GOVERNOR & LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

Kenneth E. Mapp (IND). . . . . . . . .  10,943 - 47.89%
Donna M. Christensen (DEM). . . . . . 8,623 - 37.74%
Soraya D. Coffelt (IND). . . . . . . . . . .1,662 - 7.27%
Mona L. Barnes (IND). . . . . . . . . . . 1,514 - 6.63%
Sheila A. Scullion (IND). . . . . . . . . . . . 68 - .30%
WRITE-IN (IND). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 39 - .17%

While Delegate Christensen is still behind she has reduced the gap to a 10% down from some 14% three days after the November 4, 2014 polls when most political pundits had written her off.

The Christenen-Ottley team was able to close the gap thanks to the lead in the absentee ballots counted in the St. Thomas-St. John district where the Democratic Team got a huge majority of those votes.

Persons can still register to vote in the runoff according to this news site’s reporter in the USVI up until Thursday, November 13, 2014.

Once a new Governor is elected next Tuesday November 18, 2014 the person will be sworn in on January 5, 2014 replacing incumbent Democratic Governor John P. de Jongh Jr., who is term-limited and cannot run for re-election after two consecutive 4 year terms in office.

    Based upon models dating back to the two or three run offs it will be a long shot if she wins, but then again fluidity supposedly trumps everything else.

    The Christensen-Ottley Team should not be struggling for votes to win the gubnatorial election. Donna served the people of the VI well during her 18 years as our Delegate to Congress. She has had a strong supporting base of grass rooters that got her over 11,000 votes each time around for re-election to congress. Where are those loyal supporters? Basil 's uncle was the backbone of the Democratic Party. He himself served in the Legislature of the Virgin Islands and went on to work at Interior as the Desk Officer for the Virgin Island. Their government experiences makes them well qualified to be governor and lt. governor.
    Now, lets look at Kenneth Mapp and Osbert Potter. Mapp once served as Lt. Governor and Senator donkey years ago and Potter likewise as a senator, but, since then; where have they been? Folks don't cut off your noses to spite your the faces the territory needs the Christiansen-Ottley Team to move the territory forward in the years to come. Quit being passive and to the RIGHT THING VOTE THE BEST TEAM 0f Christiansen_Ottley November 18, 2014! In your hearts you know that is right. you'll be glad you did!!
