BVI Customs to host Regional Sports Tournament

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The British Virgin Islands Customs Sports and Social Club will be hosting a regional meeting with the Presidents of the Caribbean Regional Customs Sports Tournament from today through Sunday in preparation for the 39th Caribbean Customs Sports Tournament.

The Tournament, to be held in the Virgin Islands for the first time, runs from April 17 to 21, 2014.

Speaking on the benefits of the this annual tournament, President of the BVI Customs Sports and Social Club Ms Shenelle Walters said hosting this annual tournament in the VI will bring a whole slew of benefits. “It will bring regional travelers, financial sports tourism and revenues to hotels, taxi drivers and local business.”

She also went on to explain that the benefits also include ample opportunity for social interaction outside of the sports arena, such as cultural evenings and bringing about a branding of the VI for further Regional sports events.

The regional tournament will attract over 460 participants and spectators from Antigua, Anguilla, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, St. Kitts, Trinidad, Turks and Caicos, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, St. Lucia and Cayman Islands.

Games will include cricket, football, table-tennis, basketball, dominoes and softball to be held at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds, and the Greenland Recreation Grounds.
