ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – In a short, exciting, yet grueling 3.4 mile ride that finished on top of Windy Hill, Orano Andrews proved the fittest when he overcame the struggling uphill climb to finish first in the BVI Cycling Federation Time Trial this morning May 13, 2012.

Andrews was the last to head out on the Time Trial event which saw riders starting at one-minute intervals from Bomba Shack in Apple Bay and finished on top of Windy Hill at the junction to Sage Mountain.

The elite rider finished the course in a time of 22 minutes, 28:01 seconds to dominate the event with Shaquil Samuel clocking 24 minutes, 56:84 seconds to take second spot. Antonio Andrews secured the third spot with 31:10:19, with Statius Taliam in fourth with 32:17:06 and Eldon Solomon fifth in a time of 39:56:75.

Anthony Spencer was the lone Mountain Bike rider who finished in an amazing 25 minutes, 35:25 which easily earned him third place overall.

In the junior division, Justin Solomon made light work of his four competitors, completing the course in a time of 28 minutes, 27:53 seconds. Newcomer Richardo Jones also put in a very impressive ride, placing second with at time of 32 minutes, 04:66. Barney Nockholds placed third in 34:17:06, with Melvin Knight in fourth 43:44:75 and Raffique Pope in fifth with 50:35:18.

The next event on the BVICF Calendar will be the Juniors Only Slaney/Sea Cows Bay Criterion for 10 miles on June 10. This will be followed by the BVICF Highway Challenge on June 24 which is a 40-50 mile road race from west end to the airport and back.

The event that follows will be the Junior Championship on July 1 which will go from West End to HLSCC and back to West End.

    It is good to see that a young man and teens are getting involved in this sport. Congratulations to all of you that participated and keep up the hard work.
