CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St Thomas, USVI— A St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) woman is before the courts after authorities intercepted her selling illegal lottery tickets.

On Thursday evening, August 18, 2022, Suleika Adames was arrested and charged with conducting an illegal lottery and selling illegal lottery tickets. Her arrest came after a police officer was called to a bar by a [US] Virgin Islands Lottery Enforcement Officer who was conducting field surveillance to investigate illegal lottery sales. The individual told the responding officer that they had just purchased an illegal lottery ticket from Adames.

When police made contact with Adames, the officer witnessed her picking up receipts and placing them in her bag along with a cellphone. Investigations revealed that the Lottery Enforcement Officer observed Adames conducting an illegal lottery and selling tickets to several individuals at the establishment. She then sold an illegal ticket to the enforcement officer. Upon making contact with Adames, police seized several illegal receipts, the cellphone and an electronic receipt printer. She was subsequently advised of her rights, transported to the station and placed under arrest.

Following her arrest, bail was set at $5,500 which Adames was unable to post at the time. She appeared before the court on Friday and the judge permitted her release upon the signing of an unsecured bond in the value of the bail amount. The judge stated that Adames does not appear to be a danger. While she awaits trial, the defendant is prohibited from having any contact with potential witnesses in this matter.

      Look at her face, she seems angry not remorseful at all. Goes to show you these people care nothing about you and only want your money. Stop giving your money away. Don't you have bills to pay or to put savings in the bank? Wow, some people are weak hoping to get rich quickly.

    Looks like government want people to dead instead of doing something to survive. When it comes to illegal activities the government system is the worst.

    So, you work hard to get your paycheck, then you give it to those ladies here selling lottery for Puerto Rico? How much have you given so far and never won? That could have been a down payment on your house, because I know personally about a relative who won't listen, spending hundreds a month, and never win. He has spent thousands over the years. It's like a drug got a hold on him. Why doesn't our government stop this nonsense? Police are buying them too.

      @Arrion
      I personally know 3 persons here who have won Puerto grand prize. One of them from the sisters and 2 from the Syrian. So people have won, it is just that your relative didn't get a winning sheet.

        @ Reynel. Only 3 winners. Those sisters were here for years. Imagine the money they collected from the BVI any why is thr government allowing another country to sell theirs when we should be selling our own, keeping the money here? That makes no sense whatsoever.
