'What is the plan’ for good policing in the VI? – Protesters demand of Governor

-Demonstrators take to street to demand the Governor & Police share a plan for VI’s crime woes

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Despite a low turnout to a planned march to the Governor’s office in Road Town, Tortola, today, February 14, 2024, the small group of persons which included Bishop John I. Cline and his brother Ronford Cline called it a demonstration towards getting answers for poor policing in the territory.

Mr Ronford speaking to the media said, “It's not a lot of us. A lot of us talk, but they didn't show up but we know we have social media, so they will see it.”

He added that despite the small turnout, the group will head to the Governor's Daniel Pruce's office to present him with a letter for Better protection and for better policing of the ocean, land, and sea.

“What is his plan? We need another plan. We need to have a plan, and the plan needs to be explained to the politicians and the people of this country,” he said ahead of the March.

A demonstration - Bishop Cline

Meanwhile, Bishop Cline said the demonstration was not only to send a message to the Governor, but also to criminal elements.

“I saw it as a demonstration, not so much against, but something. for a safer BVI, for better policing... It is a demonstration to send a message not only to the Police and the Governor that we need better protection, but also to send a message to criminal-minded persons that would have the audacity to come out in the middle of the day and hold up our business places.”

He added, “We are not happy with this kind of behavior, this is not the BVI that we invest in, that we hope to see going forward and leave for our children and our children's children. So when we are marching today, we are marching for better policing and for a better, safer community.”

Bishop Cline called for the involvement of parents, churches, families schools, and everyone else to send a message to the Governor and Police despite not coming out to the march.

“So, wherever you are, even though you didn't come out because of work or whatever, because you're afraid. We decided still to take a stand for a better BVI going forward,” he added.

Believe this truth. I don't type comments for show. I do because I am a native that truly cares for the wellbeing or betterment of the people of the BVI and others, too.

Over the past 20 plus years, especially the last 10 years, serious criminal activities have been and continuing being on a steady upward spike year in year out. Sad, isn't it? Yes, it is sad.
Of all the many serious crimes that are happening in the BVI daily, is only poor policing the Clines can see, that we need to march.against?
The main focus should not be focusing on the police. This is just a political distraction to get people attention from the many subtle criminal activities of the self-sanctified, but are not, cleanse, but yet pretending to be righteous people for personal attention.

I believe that in the governor's office has a paper shedder. All the governor need to do accept the letter, at then, get his secretary to photocopy it, after that, order the secretary to shed the original, and keep the photocopy in a file for record keeping.
In the BVI lately common sense is not that common, but for many the exception.
Because of the continuing deceptive action of the Clines, the Cline family is in decline, spiritually, socially, and sadly sensible.

We the peace loving people that living in the BVI are saddened by these shameful behaviors of some persons that living among us, but any effort to single out poor policing as the main setback makes no sense.

Native Senior Citizen, I find your post quite mis leading. First of all you are not a Native Senior and we know this for certain. So take your agenda driven content elsewhere

Aint no Senior Virgin Islander on here blogging let alone referring to themselves as such. Lastly if you were, you would know that all such persons are disgusted with Police performance over the years and it continues to worsen as time progresses.

      you too funny

These low turnout marches are a Disappointment and providers the Colonialists with vital ammunition for their planning, knowing there is no ground swell of support against the issues are pushing/ forcing on us. Former Governor John Rankin let the cat of out the bag in responding to the low protest turn out after the release of the CoI recommendations. Virgin Islanders want change but don’t want to fight to effect change to protect their rights, freedoms, etc. They have the false beliefs that the Colonialists got their backs. The sad things is if you give someone the weapon, ammunition,,and opportunity you can say good night. You got to control one of these things. Similarly, to prevent got to control either the fuel, oxygen or heat. Similar for mold growth mold spores, food and moisture are needed. If we want change we must be willing and must fight for change.

To Manjack, some good analogies, recapping 1) if you provide someone with gun and ammo ( not literarily) and opportunity, you will suffer a setback; control one of those things for success., b) you must control one leg of fire triangle to prevent fires,,ie, heat, fuel and oxygen, c) to control/prevent mold you must control also one leg of mold triangle, ie, mold spores ( prevalent and hardest to control), food sources, and moisture.

In the virgin Islands we take a lot if things for granted. Noel Lloyd started the Positive Action Movement by himself. Walking down mainstreet with placards infront and back of himself. But that movement turned huge and vibrant and had a serious impact on the Situation at the time. Crime in the Virgin Islands and particular on Tortola is on the rise and there seems to be a Non-Chalant attitude about it unless it hits your house or business personally. Just like Tourism, crime is every body's business.

Guy Hill, real talk. Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu: “ The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” This means attaining an aim, a goal, begins with a first step. Indeed, national hero Noel Lloyd started the protest against Kenneth Bates-Hill Wickhams Cay/Anegada debacle alone, evolving into the Positive Action Movement and resulting in Wickham Cay and 4/5 Anegada returning to local hands. National hero Theodolph Faulkner also started his protest against Commissioner John A. C. Cruikshank alone. Per historians, Mr. Faulkner nightly protests out on the plaza now Sir Olva Georges Plaza was the precursor to the Great March of 24 November 1949 which yielded results, viz, a) reinstating of Legislature which was suspended in 1901, b) first modern constitution in 1950, c) for the first time locals having the opportunity to vote directly for 4 At Large candidates to the Legislature in the 1950 General election, d) universal suffrage 1954, etc. The Great March paved the way for some self-governance, ie, ushering in of ministerial governing in 1967, etc.

Moreover, Isabel Wilkerson, Pulitzer Prize Winner, in Caste (The Orgins of Our Discontents ) reference the era of the Third Reich in Germany where a soldier ( August Landmesser) stood with his arms folded while his other fellow soldiers were” heiling in unison , their right arms rigid in outstretched allegiance to the Fuhrer.” He was the one man standing against a furious rising tide.

Further, Claud Anderson , Ed.D., in Black Labor, White Wealth notes, “A great writer said that, “ Those who the gods would make powerful must first organize.” These are true words which Virgin Islanders must adopt and employ in addressing a myriad of issues facing the territory.

To E. Leonard, I started to write something but in reading your response to Guy Hill tribute to National Hero Noel Lloyd and PAM, I abandoned what I going to wax about. You brought the receipts with supported exemplary examples. The quote by Dr Claud Anderson on the importance of organizing is particularly instructive and effective. A protest must be organized, purposeful, goal-driven, and persistent. Ok a handful of people came out to march/protest and left what now. A well intended protest, agitation, advocacy, etc, must be persistent. Will the marchers regroup, get better organize and come back next week, next month. Another blogger last week equated our (Virgin Islanders) approach to things like a dog chasing a car and catching up with the car and then what? Noel Lloyd, Dolph Faulkner, Christopher Fleming were organized and persistent. For persistence let’s us looki to the Israeli in regards to their Prime Minister trying to reduce the power of the Supreme Court..The Israelis protested by tens of thousands weekly, monthly and are still protesting against the PM’s move. The PM pulled back some but they still are protesting. Another blogger the Rattler notes that a rattler when engaged it does not give up till the battle is won. We must adopt the rattler mentality ..Get organized, be committed, be persistent, persistent, persistent.

To @E.Leonard & GateKeeper, good read with good historical references and sources, charting a path forward. The suggestion on getting organized and persistent in meaningful protest, agitating, advocating, etc is priceless. Indeed, the Israelis have demonstrated the effectiveness of organizing and persistence. Virgin Islanders have gotten entitled, lost the fight and heart, comfortable, yielding to appeasement, meritorious manumission, altruism, dependency, etc..They are boldly wounded and afflicted with the Stockholm Syndrome.

This is correct. This is a smoke screen to deflect pressure from the politicians. If not enough funds are voted by the HOA that’s all the COP has to work with. Let’s take all the detectives, investigators, traffic caps, and armed response teams and have them walking around town and see how that works out for crime.

what is very important, the UK comes back to this territory reprimanding our people

however no one seems to care about the negligence within UK Representatives

    For example
Border Security falls under the Portfolio of His Excellency but take a good look at the type of Ammunition in this place: BVI do not manufacture weapons therefore we need far better border protection

    For Example:
when you move about this little island one hardly see any presence of law enforcement; yes you will see the presence of massive law enforcement after an accident

The gun boys moving around free simply because the presence of police patrols will act as an deterrent within our communities

Both the movement of the police and improving security of the border is a must

The Police also need to be fully armed to protect the people. If the criminals are armed everyone in the police force need to be fully armed. It doesn't make sense if they are patrolling different areas of the country and are not carrying a gun and the criminals have the guns in their cars, in their bikes and also in their murse "man bag" that they carry around their necks/shoulder. I wouldn't want to be a police out there patrolling and not armed and the damn criminals are then fully armed. We are now in 2024 not the 1960 times have changed. The police needs to be fully equipped in order to protect the people.
