ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The recently appointed Climate Envoy for the Virgin Islands, Dr Kedrick D. Pickering, has said he is pleased to work with the government for the advancement of the Virgin Islands.

Speaking during a press conference on Friday, December 12, 2025, Dr Pickering, a former Deputy Premier of the Virgin Islands (VI) under the then National Democratic Party (NDP), acknowledged that he sits on the opposite side of the political divide.

Despite this, he said, “When it comes to the issue of our national and sustainable development, especially with regards to the preservation and sustainability of our environment, we speak with one voice.”

His appointment was announced by Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) at the same press conference.

Premier Wheatley thanked Dr Pickering for his "patriotic decision" to serve in this capacity, adding that he looks forward to working with him to further the Virgin Islands' interests at home and abroad.

Honoured to have this opportunity

Dr Pickering, a former Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, thanked both Premier Wheatley and Deputy Premier and Minister for Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, Hon Julian Fraser, RA (R3), for the opportunity to serve.

He said he was honoured to be able to work alongside both men and the government by extension, to ensure that the environment remains at the centre of everything.

“I am pleased to be given the opportunity to do some work to help our country and help advance our approach to our development,” Dr Pickering said.
