ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies (VISTS) has received a generous donation of $2800.00 from the Adult Spelling Bee held last month.

VISTS was selected randomly by the 2025 Adult Spelling Bee Competition, Dwynel D. Davis.

The donation, which came at the start of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, came from 100 per cent of the proceeds from this year’s Adult Spelling Bee Competition’s admission fees.

“We wish you guys all the best for this school year, and we hope that this does help a little bit,” competition coordinator Darryl E.F. Flanders said at the presentation on September 9, 2025.

Not by chance, but a blessing- VISTS principal

“We are grateful that we were selected. It wasn’t by chance; it was a blessing and signifying what to expect from the community for this school year. Nothing but blessings, making the things we need possible…Thank you,” VISTS principal, Mrs Letetia Penn Rodgers, said.

The principal revealed that the school needed a tent for students to have an outdoor eating space, rather than in their classrooms

“Right now, we are loaning one…and the tent costs about $3000.”

The school is also in need of a blower to assist in cleaning the yard of leaves.

The 4th edition of the Adult Spelling Bee Competition was held on August 30, 2025, at Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium in Paraquita Bay.

Each year, the winner randomly selects a school to receive the admission fees collected. Over ten thousand dollars has been donated to schools in the territory during the competition’s four-year run.

VISTS principal, Mrs Letetia Penn Rodgers should go to the maintenance departement and tell them to get a blower and get it into their schedule to use it.

The Government has a $100,000,000 loan and schools are going out begging for things??

    Use your maintenance budget.

You are going to rent a tent for $3000 instead of using classrooms you already have, and spending the money on learning materials or maintenance.

Whose tent is it the Wheatleys.?????
