'Our collective strategy is working'- Hon Kye M. Rymer

Minister of Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), in a press release, hailed the results as clear evidence of effective collaboration between the Government of the Virgin Islands and the BVI Airports Authority.

“The Government remains firmly committed to supporting the Authority as it strengthens airlift to and from the Territory and the 2025 passenger numbers confirm that this partnership is delivering real, measurable results."

Minister Rymer added, “Increased air access is not just about movement through our airports; it creates a meaningful trickle-down effect across our economy, benefiting tourism, trade, employment, and local businesses. These figures reinforce that our collective strategy is working.”

BVIAA Board's direction is 'clear & deliberate'- Kevin S. Fahie

Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Kevin S. Fahie, emphasised the Board’s strategic focus and long-term vision for the aviation sector. “The Board’s direction has been clear and deliberate, supporting economic growth, tourism development, and deeper regional integration through a resilient and forward-looking aviation sector. The results reflected in the 2025 figures demonstrate prudent oversight and strong strategic alignment as we continue strengthening our airports and operations while advancing toward the realisation of the proposed airport development. We are building capacity today to support the BVI of tomorrow.”

Managing Director Mr Kurt A. G. Menal noted that the continued growth in passenger traffic is directly attributed to the Authority’s targeted aviation strategy across all airports owned and operated by the BVI Airports Authority, adding that performance reflects years of focused planning and execution.

“This sustained growth is the direct outcome of our strategic emphasis on airlift and regional connectivity. By prioritising stronger regional links, expanding non-stop service to the US mainland, deepening airline partnerships, and enhancing the overall passenger experience, we are transforming our airports into dynamic and competitive gateways. This growth trajectory supports our vision of positioning our airport as the premier gateway to the BVI and beyond,” Mr Menal said.

This is very encouraging news for the BVI. Seeing passenger numbers not only recover after COVID but actually surpass historic highs shows that the Territory is clearly moving in the right direction. Improved regional air connectivity makes travel easier for residents and visitors alike, and that has real benefits for tourism, business, and jobs. Hopefully, this growth will also translate into continued investment in airport facilities and an even better travel experience for everyone who uses our airports.

As someone who visits the BVI regularly, it’s great to see these numbers and to feel the difference on the ground. Air access has become more reliable, with better regional connections that make getting to the islands much easier than it was a few years ago.

The growth in passenger traffic reflects the BVI’s appeal as a destination, and I’m encouraged to see the Airports Authority planning ahead to support continued improvement in service and infrastructure.

I don think these number are enough to fund a 400 million dollar airport expansion ...

Where is the kick back donkey ?

It really does feel like a different airport compared to years gone by. From the way things are managed to the overall atmosphere, it’s almost like there are new people running the place. You can see the improvements in how operations are handled and how passengers are treated. If this is what’s helping to drive the increase in traffic, then it’s definitely a positive change for the Territory.

The true ambassadors and most pleasant and welcoming taxi men are your so called "Island Taxi men". Most of the local are rude and money greedy, its all about money for them, service not on their minds.

With the increase in passengers from the airport is there a need to build the ferry terminal at west end as tourists are using the direct flights than the ferry through St Thomas.
What was the decline in the ferry traffic. Is seems silly to invest in a ferry terminal that no one is going to use and we are expanding the airport. The road from west end to town is in poor condition and i know its going to have a veneer of asphelt which will last until the next rain or be dug up in 6 months to install the telephone cable. Lets dig it up once, Put in water, Sewage, Drainage, Electricity and internet and have a 10 year plan to complete this with engineered roads as every thing else is a band aid fix.
Lets have a complet rebuild plan in place so we can survive in the future

The more critical question is how do you rationalize the West ferry terminal?

The terminal too small. Immigration area entering too small, security area leaving too small, See what happen in St Kitts 2 Jets land back to back and entry line stretch to outside and the run way and SK immigration and security area much bigger than what we have here in the BVI...Something for us to consider..

"Informed", not all passengers arrive by airport, therefore, the need for ferry terminals from West End!

The plan, always, should be about the inclusive expansion of entry ports!

I live in the US Virgin Islands, and I believe that I, too, deserve to have modernized ferry terminal facilities!

    What's. wrong. with. that?

Ferries are to expensive, they are charging you more than a plane ticket.
