TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- Travellers to and from the Virgin Islands (VI) are advised that there may be disruptions to their travel plans following a notice from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) restricting airspace in the Caribbean region.

The notice from the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA), today, Saturday, January 3, 2025, comes following the FAA’s temporary restriction of the airspace covering Puerto Rico and a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) barring any US-registered planes from flying in Venezuelan airspace.

“This notice impacts U.S.-registered aircraft and U.S.-based carriers operating within the Caribbean region. As a result, flight operations to and from the Virgin Islands may be subject to delays, diversions, rescheduling, or cancellations, depending on individual airline routing and operational decisions,” the notice stated.

Advice to passengers

The BVIAA emphasised that these restrictions are outside of its control and are being managed directly by the affected airlines in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Passengers are therefore strongly advised to:

  • Contact their airline directly for the most current and accurate information regarding flight status; and
  • Confirm flight details before travelling to the airport, as schedules may change with limited notice.

“The Authority remains in close communication with airline partners and relevant aviation stakeholders and will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work collectively to ensure that safety remains our #1 priority.”

Well, it seems you are the gullible one. Flights around the Caribbean have indeed been cancelled, delayed, rescheduled, etc. due to the Trump administration's antics in Venezuela this morning.

If I lived in Havana and I was in the government, I’d be concerned at least a little bit,” said Rubio, who has had a long preoccupation with both Venezuela and Cuba.
