VI Spring Regatta unaffected by ‘customs crackdown’ – HM Customs boss

Speaking at a press conference late yesterday March 18, 2022, Commissioner of Customs Mr. Wade N. Smith allayed fears when he said, "These measures does not affect the Spring Regatta."
According to Smith, there is a specific company working with organizers of the event collecting documents and receiving authorizations from Customs for all the vessels that are slated to participate in the event.
He said," the information can be submitted electronically through the sail clear system ahead of arrival and permission has been given to these companies or to these vessels to go direct to the location where the Spring Regatta will take place."
According to Smith permission has been granted for," the participants' exemption for cruising permits, so this will not affect the Regatta. "
Close to 200 yacht operated by Moorings/Sun Sail and a number of smaller companies and private individuals were of recently ceased from operating after they were found to in breach of a number of compliance measures with the Territory’s maritime and other laws.
The 49th BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival will take place from March 28 to April 3, 2022. The Royal BVI Yacht Club are proud sponsors and shareholders of the annual BVI Spring Regatta and Sailing Festival
