MIAMI, Florida, USA- Arrested Premier of the Virgin Islands Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) will be pleading ‘not guilty’ when he attends a preliminary hearing set for a Florida court on May 13, 2022.

This is according to Hon Fahie’s attorney Theresa Van Vliet who represented Premier Fahie in a Miami court yesterday, May 4, 2022.

Premier shook head in disagreement with allegations

According to the Associated Press, Hon Fahie stood handcuffed shaking his head in disagreement as Assistant US attorney Frederic Shadley described in court how the politician had bragged in recorded conversations with a DEA informant that he had 15-20 years of criminal activity under his belt.

US Prosecutor said ‘Hon Fahie corrupt to the core’

According to the criminal complaint, Fahie told the DEA informant that he was close to a known drug smuggler on the Caribbean island as well as an unidentified political associate from Senegal whom he agreed to approach about smuggling firearms. In the course of those conversations, he asked the DEA informant to pay upward of $100,000 to settle a debt with the Senegalese man, the complaint says.

“He’s shown in this case that he’s corrupt to the core and believes he’s above the law,” Shadley said. “He was a public servant sworn to uphold those laws but he broke them over and over again.”

However, Van Vliet, the former head of the Justice Department's narcotics division in Washington, disputed that characterisation and said her client would plead not guilty when he’s arraigned later this month.

US judge disagrees Hon Fahie a flight risk

Meanwhile, according to the Associated Press, Judge Alicia Otazo-Reyes seemed convinced by Van Vliet's argument that Fahie's continued detention would make it impossible for him to carry out his official duties at a critical juncture for the islands, as officials weigh suspending the territory’s constitution in an attempt to clean up rampant corruption.

“These are the most serious of duties that he could and should be performing,” said Van Vliet, the former head of the Justice Department's narcotics division in Washington.

Otazo-Reyes rejected prosecutors’ argument that Andrew Fahie may flee the U.S. and possibly engage in criminal activity if he is freed. Instead, she said he could remain in Miami, confined to the rented apartment of his two college-age daughters, if he and his family surrender their passports and he wears an ankle bracelet monitor in addition to paying the sizable corporate surety bond. Assistant U.S. Attorney Frederic Shadley said the government would appeal the decision, meaning it’s unclear when and if Fahie would be released.

Motion seeking to oust Hon Fahie as Premier

Currently, there is a motion being debated in the House of Assembly (HoA) to have Hon Fahie removed as Premier of the Virgin Islands to make way for the proposed unity government, with Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) at the helm.

Not guilty??? No way. Now he will be sentenced to LIFE in prison after he is convicted on all charges. In 1985 the Chief Minister, Norman Saunders, of the Turks & Caicos was convicted of illegal drug conspiracy and sentenced to 8 years in Federal prison and a $50K fine. 37 years later the sentences for drug related crimes have increased ten fold so inmate Fahie will be 'inside' for life and heavily fined as well.

With the amount of time he obviously spent on his own business, not much time for him to spend on "official duties". And given the state of BVI's Government, infrastructure, ports, and educational systems to name a few, best he's not available to focus any attention on "official duties".

Just how blackka lied that he doing it for 20years just to fit in, Fahie did the same cause he was desperate for the cash. Where is the proof. I vex he didn’t notice this set up. They could have gotten the drugs tru the port with Maynard alone

No drugs was intended to come tru any por. It was a conspiracy scam, lying from the SPecial Agent and Fahie lying trying to Con the man. Remember people only the money was involved, no drugs was involved, it’s all a set up by England to get Fahie out of the way so they could have easier acces to take over the Territory and suspend the constitution, know that Fahie is a fighter and would not give the an easy walk through. Now Fahie as Head Coach should have refused to play this season, let Blakka and his mother figure the game out and bring him his money behind closed doors. But the absent wouldn’t go for it because they send him to take down Fahie , so right there his wheel choke if Fahie played the game right. All this things Fahie tell de man is to make him believe that he is a Gangster, poor boy ! I feel for the brother but really it’s all a lie. No Senegal , sh*t , No Hesballah sh*t , there is nothing like that going on , it’s just a game , a conspiracy to get in caught up and out of Englands way.
Now we got two Wh***s leading the country , Fornication and Adultery is worse than drugs, it’s in the street and every body knows it that this is what brought down the two greatest Kings of all time. David and Solomon. Now these two wh***s are going to take us further in Abomination.
Finally shifting cr**ks around is not the way forward, let the UK fix things, calm the population then we can rule again, come clean God is watching.
Andrew will be freed if he has a good Lawyer. It is a set up from the High Lodge Council

Poor Fahie. What I mean by that is, that he will longer have access to big dirty money, and he will be like the rest of us...POOR. It is now he will know how we have been feeling with no financial help. What a CROOK!

Federal government conviction rate is 99.8% and only 2% go to trial... they all plea out before they see inside a Federal court for anything but being remanded.
Fahie has been charged with conspiracy to run large amounts of drugs, guns and money through the BVI headed to the US apart from the guns, they were for arming the Mexican Cartel and it's all on tape and video.
I think you can stick a fork in him but this is going to be a great Netflix special!

We are all shocked, disappointed, embarrassed, and saddened about this entire situation. The question is WHY did he entertain this when he was seen as a strong respectful man who many thought was an upstanding leader?
