Registered Democratic voters across the US Virgin Islands (USVI) will select the party’s candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, delegate to Congress, the 36th Legislature and other offices when the territory holds its 2026 Primary Election on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Photo: VIC

The Primary Election will see registered Democratic voters across the US Virgin Islands selecting the party’s candidates for governor and lieutenant governor, delegate to Congress, the 36th Legislature, and other offices.

The USVI Board of Elections has announced that there will be election officials from the Virgin Islands (VI) during Saturday’s primary.

The delegation will include Supervisor of Elections Carlene Herbert and Deputy Supervisor Kenrico O. Wheatley Jr.

The officials will shadow local election operations and observe the territory’s administration of the primary and use of voting-tabulator technology.

According to the USVI Board of Elections Chairman, Raymond Williams, the VI representatives will not handle ballots, equipment, or any other part of the voting process.

They will also have no role in the subsequent audit and will receive no access beyond what is available to members of the general public.

Mr Williams said the visit is strictly educational and observational.

What voters will decide

The Democratic ballot includes contests for delegate to the House of Representatives, governor and lieutenant governor, the Legislature of the Virgin Islands and the Board of Education.

The St Thomas-St John ballot also includes a contest for two seats on the St. Thomas Board of Elections.
