ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The Virgin Islands (VI) is now leading the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

Mrs Sharleen S. Dabreo-Lettsome, MBE, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, assumed the chairmanship during the 17th meeting of the TAC, which took place in the Virgin Islands from April 13 to 17, 2026. 

Executive Director of CDEMA  Elizabeth Riley made the official statement during a briefing following the meeting on Thursday, April 16th, 2026.

The 17th meeting of the TAC brought together coordinators from 20 Caribbean states and key regional hazard experts. 

1-year term

"I’m pleased to announce that CDEMA’s technical advisory committee is now under the able chairmanship of the Virgin Islands,” stated Riley.

Mrs Dabreo-Lettsome will serve as Chair for one year, guiding the committee's work and advising the coordinating unit on programming priorities.

The Executive Director expressed her intentions to collaborate with the new chair, noting that the last day and a half demonstrated they are under "very strong leadership".
