Vernon Bernard & Rafael Harrigan now charged with Rodriquez in Daway’s murder
Moments ago the other two young men, who this news site had first and accurately reported were arrested, were officially charged.
They are Vernon Bernard, 26, a Dominica national who resides in Purcell Estate on Tortola and local resident Rafael Harrigan, 27, also of Purcell Estate.
Bernard is charged for the murder of Mr Daway and unlawful possession of a firearm while Harrigan is charged for possession of a firearm.
Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton also confirmed the latest arrests in a press release late this afternoon, March 4, 2018.
Earlier today, police charged 21 year old female Maybelline Rodriquez with the murder of Mr Daway.
RVIPF is working- Mathews
Police Commissioner Michael B. Mathews, who just returned our call placed earlier this morning, confirmed our story. He also added, “I recognised the serious concerns from the community regarding the recent shootings in the Territory.”
Mr Mathews, who is under pressure to demonstrate some progress in crime reduction, said “whilst we cannot always publicise what we are doing, my detectives are committed to tracking down those who ruthlessly choose to kill and resort to violence in our Territory.”
He said he was grateful for the support of the public “as we continue to investigate the reckless and futile homicides in the Territory.”
The three defendants, Messers Harrigan and Bernard and Ms Rodriquez, will appear before a Magistrate on Tuesday March 6, 2018 under heavy police protection. It is not clear which Attorney/s they have retained in their defense.
The Virgin Islands has recorded three murders so far for 2018, with all three happening in the month of February.

Unfortunately we are living in a period where the BVI's eggs are coming home to roost. It is always nice when we are sowing wrong but when reaping time comes around it is bitter sweet. The police force has been a political foot ball been kicked around from both powers at be and now that the results of such action has come home to roost everybody is daunted on what to do.
The disturbing fact about this case and others before and maybe after is that if these three people are convicted in about 3 to 5 yrs they will be out driving around with the prison guards or out working during the day and maybe in ten those who are not from here will be deported. We have a system of incarceration that does not bear punishment and this is what is help failing our country. The politics again has failed. We need these young people to know that if you do crimes there is a housing of strict punishment awaiting.
I heard when the prisoners in St. Lucia were complaining it is alleged that some of our leaders were trying to transfer them other places where the conditions were more favorable.
Don't even think about it. @#$% with them and no one will be safe including you punk
Where is funny man?
I have been saying the SAME thing for years BUT no one is listening
Too many favours / kksses We CANNOT. Keep every one some HAVE to GO
But. Make prison a prison and NOT a hotel
He should have been deported a long time ago. When you come to a man's country and canot behave yourself, its time to go!
These are the tough and logical decisions countries around the world must make. And yes a few of ours have been sent back as well.
Then on the flip side you have decent law abiding expats here for 15 - 20 years and we are ready to send them back just because they have been displaced by an act of God. Give them a chance to catch themselves. Get rid of the undesirables like this unremorseful thief. If he was from here we would have no choice but to keep him, but someone please tell me what we waited for - oh I forgot, for him to murder someone.
Still not impressed with the so called uk expert officers
If Harrii is a first time offender he may be on easy street for the weapons charge.
No I hadn't noticce.
Lord is like when I talk to him he don't listen
