ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has reiterated the importance of vaccinations for COVID-19, urging citizens to get vaccinated as the territory navigates the global pandemic.

Premier Fahie in a Thursday, May 20, 2021, statement said while the protocols continue to work, “the more we open our economy, the more we increase the risk of COVID-19 coming to the shores. But our protocols will help us to keep it secure.”

Gov't still pushing vaccinations - Premier Fahie

The Premier said that even as the territory has low infection rates with the majority having been captured under the Day-0 testing and the Day-4 testing, vaccination is still a major factor in the fight.

“I cannot leave without saying that while I respect the views and the rights of those who do not believe in the vaccine, as a government we continue to push and encourage persons to be vaccinated. “

Hon Fahie continued, “Because it is the only credible option that we do have at this time to ensure that we fight COVID-19 as best as we can and save lives and livelihoods.”

Vaccines still not mandatory

While the Government has been pushing vaccination, it has maintained that the vaccine is not mandatory for those opting not to take it.

The Premier also said that in the future, he will bring more proposals that explore VI's economic prospects and what is being done now, however, he reminded that COVID-19 will still be a major factor.

Where is the law that supports the closures of the bvi, the mandatory mask, the ban on gathering and on and on ...

The answer is... emergency laws. You might have missed the point. It’s emergency and should the gov decide it’s needed, it can easily be done. The giv knows that so not worried about them.

I am worried about people like yourself that don’t get it and think we can continue in this state for ever, waiting for god to give us the ok to continue in our lives like he gave Noah...

I bet your living hood is not dependent on tourism

It works in a different way; it teaches your body to recognize the virus so if yiu get it then your body is ready to fight it. It would be lovely to believe that eating right will protect you to the same extent but although it will help a little bit, it's nowhere near as effective.

Just so we get it right... you are against the vaccines and even more for it to be mandatory. Ok

And your solution is what? Diet? Are you suggesting a mandatory diet? Or suggesting your diet is so much better than those tens of millions of people who contracted COVID 19?

Just to remind people, 166 million people got sick, 3.5m died and you debating what kind of food to eat.

Not true their are at least 2 drugs that can treat covid that are low cost, ivermectin and hydrochloroquine, both have been used in peer reviewed studies to great affect

you are WRONG and yes thats in capitals for a reason, both thise you listed DO NOT WORK, invermectin to work against Covid-19 requires you to take 100 times the dose recommended for humans, so would you take 100 paracetamols in one dose? It would kill you....

Up to now there is no cure, no other treatment options. No immune booster. Nothing. But if you get it vaccine or not the body has to fight it off & recover still.

big money masquerading as philanthropy that made a few billions for a few people.

Nothing to do with the premier & government once it’s not mandatory or restrict freedoms based on this hustle.

As you leave your house to head to the office, before you leave, next to the front door, on the bottom left side there are two balls ...
Take them with you to the office and make what you know if the only solution ... mandatory vaccination.

I will give you a discount ... worry about your voters? Make it mandatory to every foreign workers. Don't want the vaccinate, leave the territory that too is a personal choice.

Just dont kick the balls to someone else ... it can hurt :)

When I was growing up, there were many viruses people took the vaccine and these viruses went away well it's the same with COVID-19 the more people take the vaccine the faster we will beat COVID-19. The problem these days the BVI has more scientists than anywhere in the world they look at YouTube, Facebook, and all the other Media, listening to people who think like them. The crap I get about the vaccine on WhatsApp is unbelievable. People for what we know from the past the quicker most of us get the vaccine the quicker we won't have to worry about COVID-19.

    1. The vaccine has not been through sufficiently tested to ensure its safety. You may see no effects now but as time progresses an otherwise healthy person may become ill or die because of it.

    2. Some research I saw shows that because of the different strains astra zeneca may not be as effective if a person has another strain of the virus. The testing done before only shows It is only truly effective against the original strain. Now they have found reason to believe it may have some unintended side effects. As a result some countries are taking a step back from it.

What the premier needs to do is divert from tourism and go back into farming and fishing. Tourism is bringing unecessary exposure to a country that has covid under alot of control. Also it is pressuring healthy individuals out if a job.

If the vaccine is so effective then have then pressure the tourist coming into our country to be fully vaccinated then their vaccination should protect us right? Why are you trying to pressure people in a country with "1 covid related death" when the tourist are coming from countries where the virus is out of control. They should feel quite safe coming whether people are vaccinated or not. We are the ones that need to worry about their vaccination.

    • Tim (23/05/2021, 11:32) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
I disagree with many of your proclaim facts however agree with you on the conclusion... pressure the premier to open up, even only for vaccinated people.
They won’t mind . The country is closed not because tourists don’t want to come. It’s closed because the country’s is afraid to take them in.

All you people who believe they are safe due to their science or god protection, please demand opening up.
With your god protection, and us vaccinated people, we have 90%+ immunity.... if you believe in your statement

I really don’t mind if the non vaccinated people will get vaccinated or not. They have their belief, being their own silence or god or what have you.

    Don’t want to vaccinate don’t.

My problem that their refusal does impact other people life due to the closure. Their personal in not a personal choice, it’s a collective.

Here is what I would hope to see...

I would love the note vaccinated folks to stand firm as say to the government:
Open up - we are not vaccinating and have no plan to be vaccinated. We are being impacted by the closure just like everyone else.
We demand opening up, we don’t need the gov protection. We are safe.

If you all believe in the fake virus and silence, the fight not just for your right to not be vaccinated but on the right of everyone to get back to work and make decent living. Give the gov the legitimacy to open up with people support.

You can’t play both ends ...

@ one eye - The Premier has already stated many times vaccine will not be mandatory for COVID. Why the fuss everyone with who is vaccinated or not vaccinated. It is a personal choice. There is still freedom of choice in the BVI. Persons need to mind their own business and stopped being concern with who is vaccinated or not vaccinated. Everyone should just abide by the social distancing protocols and continue to wear their masks because whether you are vaccinated or not vaccinated those things will still apply so just be safe always. We know we can get COVID whether we are vaccinated or not vaccinated. Let the Premier open up the Territory! Stop being concern with other people personal choices. It is their body and life.
