RED HOOK, St. Thomas, USVI – It’s one of the most popular sporting events in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), and Governor John P. deJongh Jr. seeing the potential it has for job opportunities pledged his support in boosting horseracing in the USVI.

In an exclusive interview with this news agency on April 27, 2012, at the Clinton E. Phipps racetrack, Governor deJongh stated “horseracing is an industry we are trying to build in the USVI from St. Croix to St Thomas, it is something that we are trying to invest in.”

And cognizant of the economic instability many countries are experiencing, the USVI’s leader and horseracing fan disclosed that if his Government cannot financially assist directly, it will set up programmes where the streams of revenue can be dedicated to the sport.

“That is an area we have to spend a little more time developing but it’s clearly an area that there is a tremendous interest by people who own horses...we also think that there is employment opportunities that represent a tremendous segment that we can begin to tap into. So we will support it and do what we can,” he added.

According to this news agency’s research, the sport generates over $3M annually for the USVI.

You so lie!!! Who was responsible for fixing he vendors stands and the rest of the grounds for the races December last year? and who continues to up grade the track? Allu must give Jack his jacket man. What confusion he caused? The horse races has an association ho makes all the rules and regulations. The minister financially support the sport.
