USVI Subway restaurant robbed at gunpoint
ST. CROIX, USVI - The Subway restaurant in Golden Rock, St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands (USVI), was robbed at gunpoint on Friday night, December 20, 2019, multiple police officers have confirmed to the Consortium.
The incident occurred at about 7:54 p.m. and was the third such incident in 24 hours. A day before, Champs and Pizza Hut were both robbed at gunpoint, with the suspects leaving all three establishments with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Multiple calls placed to the USVID Public Information Officer, Toby Derima, Friday night and Saturday morning were not returned up tp publication time.
While the USVIPD has not issued a report on the incident, officers told the Consortium that no one was injured during the Subway restaurant robbery. However, the suspects brandished firearms to coerce employees to release funds in the cash register to them.
Investigations ongoing
The Consortium arrived on the scene moments after the incident at Subway while officers were still investigating the robbery. Multiple officers canvassed the outside area for leads, while others were on the inside questioning employees and scanning the space for clues.
The rash of robberies come at the height of the holiday season on St. Croix, even so, the USVIPD has yet to make known whether the incidents are connected.
The Champs and Pizza Hut robberies occurred in the Sunny Isle Shopping Center hours apart.
