CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, USVI - USVI’s Governor Albert Bryan Jr has joined other Caribbean officials in denouncing the recommendations of a BVI Commission of Inquiry (CoI) report and its calls for UK direct rule.

Bryan’s remarks, made Tuesday, May 3, 2022, were especially sharp over the recommendation to suspend the VI’s constitution and place the neighboring territory under direct rule of the United Kingdom.

According to the St. Thomas news source, the Governor called the recent arrest of BVI Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1) over drug conspiracy a tragedy, however, said it would. be unfortunate to let allegations against the Premier and Port Director Oleanvine Pickering-Maynard cast judgment over their peers in government.

“Give us an opportunity to make those mistakes and give guidance. Taking over is a terrible thing to do,” he said.

Let local people take Gov't back - Governor Bryan

“I pray the British government (will) give those local people the opportunity to take their government back under control and help them get the government that they deserve,” Gov Bryan added.

Caribbean leaders and organizations including Caricom and the OECS have condemned any move by the UK to impose direct rule on the VI and called on the Johnson Government to let the VI handle its own affairs.

During an April 18, 2022, press conference, BVI Governor John J.  Rankin  CMG revealed that the CoI Commissioner, Sir Gary R. Hickinbottom made several key recommendations, including direct rule and speedy review of the VI Constitution.

According to the Governor, the report also included recommendations for the curtailment of 'open-ended discretionary powers' held by public officials, including Cabinet, and a series of audits into projects, which may lead to criminal investigations.

You need to clean out under your dirty rug before you say anything. Look at what you did or have been doing to your wife.

If he is so opposed to UK direct rule over the BVI why don't he fight for independence from mainland USA. Food for thought

He will never do that. The USVI have to much to loose if he does that. The US dollar that all of you in the BVI have access to will be cut off.

@@watching - BVI has cut themselves off from the US dollar for 2 years now. Endless hoops to jump through and punitive fees for USVI charter companies have kept USVI day trippers out. How's that been going for their economy?

He really needs to keep his mouth shut on this one. Let the BVI AND THE UK HANDLE THEIR OWN PROBLEMS. THE USVI HAVE TO ABIDE BY AND FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND THE BVI HAVE TO ABIDE BY AND FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE UK.

It’s clear this St.Thomas governor isn’t aware of what the BVI people are up against. Sir, you haven’t even considered the COI Report, you’re just thinking that the UK wants to impose Direct Rule just because Andrew was caught up! No, that’s not the case, so you, Mr. Governor need to get the facts straight and then comment.

You come across as ignorant to the facts.

Anyone else now thing Bryan is suspect in Fahie’s dealings. He should stay out of BVI biz. We have enough problems over here. I love the BVI but would never presume to know what’s best for your people. Hoping and praying that much good comes out of this turmoil.

Now Mr. USVI GOVERNOR, people is starting to believe you were in this with Andrew. Mind your business and focus on your own damn Country. You have no idea what the people of the BVI is going through and has been put through. Why did you not condem Andrew for allowing drugs, guns and money laundering to take over his Country.
