FREDERIKSTED, St Croix, USVI — The [US] VI Police Department is investigating the death of a four-year-old boy who sustained a gunshot wound Thursday evening, July 16, 2026, with the Major Crime Unit working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to VIPD Director of Communications Glen Dratte, the St Croix 911 Emergency Call Center was notified at 7:01 PM on July 16.

The child was transported to Juan F. Luis Hospital for emergency medical treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, he died from his injuries.

Police said no determination has been made at this stage of the investigation.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
