USVI: 3 St. Croix homicides in less than 4 days; territry-wide toll @44
CHRISTIANSTED, St. Croix, USVI- A 35-year-old man was shot and killed outside a Christiansted bar early Saturday morning, marking the third homicide on St. Croix in less than four days and bringing the U.S. Virgin Islands' homicide count for 2026 to 44.
The victim was identified by next of kin as Hillman Faucher Jr., according to the V.I. Police Department. His death brings St. Croix's homicide count to 27, while St. Thomas has recorded 17 killings and St. John none.
According to the VIPD, the 911 Emergency Call Center received an alert from the department's Gunshot Detection Center at approximately 3:40 a.m. Saturday, October 24, reporting a single gunshot in the vicinity of The Hide Out Bar on Queen Street in Christiansted.
Responding officers discovered Mr. Faucher lying on the ground in front of the establishment. He was transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.
The shooting follows two other killings on St. Croix since Tuesday morning, including the death of a 17-year-old boy in Frederiksted on Thursday night.
On October 22, Ky'janny Niles was shot at the Walter I.M. Hodge Housing Community, commonly known as Sofarelli, after police received reports of gunfire at approximately 9:07 p.m. An 18-year-old man was also wounded in the incident, and both victims were transported to Juan F. Luis Hospital. Niles died from his injuries, while the second victim was reported to be in stable condition.
Two days earlier, on Tuesday, October 20, 24-year-old Jahmarie Warden was shot and killed in Old Fredensborg. Police responding to a gunshot detection alert at approximately 10:39 a.m. discovered Mr. Warden lying unresponsive near a vehicle that had been damaged by gunfire. Emergency Medical Services personnel subsequently determined that he showed no signs of life.
3 killings between Tues & Sat
The three killings occurred in separate communities between Tuesday morning and early Saturday, with victims ranging in age from 17 to 35. Police have not publicly established any connection between the shootings.
The recent violence also follows confirmation earlier this week that a man critically wounded in an October 1 shooting in Profit Hills had subsequently died. That death, together with Warden's killing on Tuesday, raised the territory's homicide count to 42. Niles's death Thursday night brought the total to 43 before Saturday's fatal shooting of Mr. Faucher pushed it to 44.
With 27 homicides recorded this year, St. Croix now accounts for more than 60 percent of the territory's killings.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau is investigating Saturday's shooting. Police have not disclosed a motive or identified any suspects in Mr. Faucher's death.
Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact Crime Stoppers V.I. at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Police said cash rewards are available for information leading to an arrest.
