‘Urgent call’ for VI personalities & influencers to join fight against direct rule
While the UK, after resistance from the Virgin Islands as well as regional bodies, decided against enforcing the overarching Commission of Inquiry (CoI) recommendation of direct rule it has placed the threat of it like a ‘Sword of Damocles’ on the VI’s head via the Order in Council instituted by the now ousted UK PM Mary Elizabeth Truss.
VI public & civil leaders have done VI proud- Hon Malone
According to Hon Malone in a statement entitled ‘One Virgin Islands agenda series: An urgent call to duty’, seen by our newsroom today, November 6, 2022, the Order is in reserve but can be brought into effect simply by Proclamation through Gazette at the sole discretion of the Governor.
He said while some of VI’s leaders from 1950 to 2022 may have made missteps, for the greatest part Virgin Islands public and civic leaders have done the territory proud with measurable successes evidenced by the tangible development and progress throughout the VI.
Is UK treating VI fairly?
“In less than three days of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) Report being released to the public, the UK’s team landed in the BVI to discuss the consequences it would impose upon our people. The UK had weeks and months to study the report. The Government and the Virgin Islands people only had 3 days – practically no time for consultation and agreement among the residents or voters or the people of the Virgin Islands,” Hon Malone lamented.
The UK has threatened to impose direct rule if the VI fails to implement the recommendations of one-man CoI Commissioner Sir Gary R. Hickinbottom.
No direct rule warranted!
According to Hon Malone, Virgin Islands residents, regional bodies and international agencies have widely agreed and have expressed that the deficiencies cited in the CoI’s report do not warrant the suspension of the Virgin Islands Constitution, in whole or in part.
“It is strongly advised that the Constitution (Interim Amendment) Order 2022 MUST NOT be made to come into effect, today or ever,” Hon Malone stated, adding that all residents of all ages and particularly the youth of the territory must be made aware of the challenges faced.
“Media and entertainment personalities and influencers are best positioned to bridge the gap with the youths but must be empowered with details of the issues. The time for involvement is now!”
Hon Malone said this “urgent call to duty” is being made to youth leaders and influencers of the media and entertainment industry to take up leadership in the mission to save the Virgin Islands' legacy.
“Empowering our youths with knowledge and information is critical to the future growth of the Virgin Islands,” Hon Malone stated.

We should wisely not allowed the current opposition Minister, Hon. Cavin Malone, and other to divert our focus off the main issue of past and present politicians mismanagement of our finances.
If the UK had wanted to impose direct rule, they would have already done so. Not even the United Nations, much less the OECS can force the UK politically to bow to us on this issue of financial mismanagement of our finances.
Some politicians are feeling fear that their past cunducts that have alledgedly violated our rights. Some of those same politicians are crying wolf, in reference to the UK.
If the UK were to imposed direct rule, our politicians will be the ones, though not all, for the caused of such.
The Unity Government leader that has already agreed to comply to all 49 CoI recommendations is desperately trying to seek help from other sources, so that the UK will in the eyes of the majority of us that it is the UK is the bully, and not those that have failed to give us proven accountability for millions of dollars unaccounted dollars so far.
Many of our people are unable or are refusing to accept the main reason why we are in this financial mess. Some is us have a mental inferiority complex, and some others blatantly hate white skin people, as do some white skin people do hate black skin people.
There are people in every country of this world ar
that harbour hater in their heart against others for various reasons. This truth is factual.
In conclusion, let us keep our focus on the main issue at hand, politicians mismanagement of our finances, over a period of many years, not the threat of the UK direct of the political management of our financial affairs of the all of the citizens of the British Virgin Islands.
What I also heard was...
I am a hypocrite. When it came to your health, I followed the transcript and did not insist on any valid source of study or education being put out there, whether for or against the 'thing' so you could decide for yourself. But because my job is now at stake, I must pull you in to save me under the guise of 'educating and empowering the youth' through influence.
Does anyone living here seriously believe this statement? Hon Malone have you driven our streets, seen our schools falling down, been to the open air burning dump?
If you believe this statement then You Sir are Part of the Problem!
Maybe then this excuse for a pebble in the ocean can somewhat reflect a place of proper intelligence and not some primitive infested environment.
I researched OECS, CARICOM and UN. The OECS and CARICOM statements agreed that suspension would not be a good thing, but none of them stated it was unwarranted. The UN generally supports self determination, but I could not find any UN statement on the specific BVI matter.
How can we again trust and vote for someone like this?
Man! What is wrong with you. Stop poking the bear. The UK is not going to take over if you stop screwing up. Yet here we are again. You screwing up!
Just fix things and stop stealing money. How hard is that!? We need roads. We need schools. We need hospitals (like more than one!). We need to stop all these drugs and guns coming in.
Time for an election
