ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The two individuals taken into custody on Thursday morning, July 17, 2025, after they were found to be acting suspiciously around one of the banks in Road Town, are 17-year-olds, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) stated in a press release this afternoon.

Police said a search of their persons led to the recovery of a loaded Glock 19 pistol containing 12 rounds of ammunition.

Both individuals were taken into custody, and investigations remain active and ongoing.

13 illegal firearms recovered so far for 2025

This latest seizure brings the total number of illegal firearms recovered in 2025 to 13, matching the total for the same period last year.

Police said that even more notable is the significant increase in ammunition seized: 995 rounds have been removed from circulation so far this year, representing a 67 percent increase compared to the 333 rounds recovered by this time in 2024.

Among the firearms seized this year are high-powered weapons including the Springfield XD, High Point C9, Stribog SP9A1, P80 Handgun, and Glock 30mm, each one representing a potential tragedy that has been averted, according to the RVIPF.

Punishment needs to increase to 15 years plus if found with an unlicensed firearm. Hit them hard with fines too. They will think twice with their foolish behaviour. Go and look work, there is a lot of work out there if you want to make a decent living, but it will require hard work. My father always used to say hard work never kill a sole in this country. Want to rob a man for what he done work hard for to feed his family. STOP it, just to go lime and flex off on others for the Festival. Go put education in your head and be a decent human being.

By tomorrow the two raccoons will be back on the street planning and plotting. Those two raccoons ran off because they were up to no good. At least the police caught them before they were able to scamper off in the bushes or up a tree. HATE RACCOONS THEY CARRY RABIES.

It is deeply concerning that a significant portion of crime in the BVI involves young people. This highlights the urgent need to invest in better education, discipline, and support systems for our children. Crime often starts from a young age, and without proper guidance, it can quickly escalate into serious problems for individuals and our society as a whole.

As parents, it is time for a new version of parenting. We can no longer trust and believe that our children are well behaved and doing nothing wrong. It is time to search our houses and keep a very serious and strict eye on them, and not only the boys, but the girls as well. With cell phones in every pocket and social media accessible by everyone, the world is now literally at our door steps. We have to save our children from themselves even. And important as well we need to keep an eagle eye on who their friends are. We have to check their phones if we suspect anything and just be vigilant and pray as well. Life is difficult enough without our children going rogue on us. This is no longer a small island. The whole world is at our feet. People from everywhere are here with their good and bad behaviours and apparently it is as easy to buy a hand gun as it is an icecream cone. Let's be vigilant.

By now we should recognise that most if our crimes are now been committed by these teenagers who think that they can commit crime without consequence. The court need to start making example of them by removing them from society for however long thereby sending a message that such behaviour wont be tolerated
