UMi making prom night wear more fashionable & affordable!
This year UMi Fashions has made it much easier for both students and the parents and there is no doubt that what’s in stock is a tip of the iceberg of what is yet to come.
The Right Start Programme at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, came to a lively close with models, mainly students, displaying a wide variety of fashionable clothing, compliments of UMi. According to the Manager of UMi, Deborah O’Neal, the store was very cognizant of the strict rules that applies to the dress code on prom nights and related events.
O’Neal said the entity is also aware of the current economic constraints and has influenced her to come up with packages that would make it easy on parents' pockets but yet give the students fashionable lines of clothing to choose from. “We are showcasing what’s hot this season beginning with the peplum dresses like this evening. You have your little skirts with your little tie jackets, for exit evening you have the usual dresses but this year we coming with a lot of colour blocking, we’re coming with a lot of bright colours. For the valedictory service of course our rules here are very strict and we are adhering to them as well. We have everything with sleeves, we have little tube dresses and the little jackets to match with it,” O’Neal said.
This year, however, UMi pushed the envelope a bit by adding some appropriate shorts, which go with the tends of fashion of the day. “It not too short, just sort of pushing the idea maybe for the careers that are into fashion and that kind of stuff. We can probably allow them to wear shorts at supper for the exit evening, just saying…,” she added.
What is more special about the UMi packages this year is that they have devised a number of initiatives that would make it light on the pockets. They have lay-away packages; fashionable low cost clothing that caters for those who may be less fortunate than others. “This year what we are offering is a package deal where we would do your clothing, your shoes, your accessories and now we are bringing on board our make-up artist Gilda Richardson, who is going to be offering make up packages as well, one package, one-stop-shop.”
Package prices range some from $175. “For kids who are supposedly not as fortunate as others to have a dress that’s probably $300 or $400 we are going to actually be going as low as $100 for prom. Also UMi is going to be giving $30 gift vouchers to the students who order their packages before May 15, 2013.”
There is no reason why one would not go for such a deal as there is also much talk of complimentary limousine escort rides. “We are very proud of our students. They have worked so hard and have gotten this far and we want to give them a good send off to the next stage of their lives.”
Yesterday’s staged fashion show was the cup of warm tea that probably allowed all that was taught over the two days to settle and nourish the students young minds. Some of the students were also given the opportunity to step on stage and showcase their boldness and courage; they won prizes and were well entertained. One point of note; it was not all about the girls as there was fashion on stage for the boys as well.
