Tola Radio panelist ‘freaks out’ as Premier refuses to take his questions

- Damian Percival calls Premier Wheatley a dictator

FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI- The popular International Morning Braff Show on Tola Radio VI, 100.5FM, had its first airing for 2023, and it was not without drama.

And just as our news centre had reported, the show also saw the return of the controversial Rosemary Cindy Rosan, who had many fallouts with the show’s host Floyd Burnett aka Heritage and had even threatened to sue him for slander last year.

The drama; however, involved virtual panelist Damian Percival, who accused Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) of being a dictator, after the Premier refused to take questions directly from him.

The fallout!

“What kind a craziness..wow. The dictatorship never ends. Have a good day Heritage,” Damian stated before hanging up his call.

One of the questions by Percival was why, according to him, there were no representatives from the BVI Tourist Board or the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour in Premier Wheatley’s recent delegation to the United Kingdom.

“He took such a broad delegation but the industry that was not touched was tourism. He also spoke about climate change, nobody from that Ministry. Can he explain those things?” Percival requested.

Premier made ‘agreement’ with Heritage

Premier Wheatley said he was going to answer the question but reminded Heritage they had an agreement that he was not going to take any questions from the panelists but only from Heritage and other members of the public, adding that he would like for that agreement to be honoured.

He explained that he didn’t have a problem engaging with the panel at another time “but for this particular show you and I came to an agreement that I would not be engaging with your panel.”

After a caller told the Premier he should not be afraid to answer any questions on “the people’s radio”, Premier Wheatley said: “There is no fear in Sowande to take any questions, but in terms of efficient use of the interview to be able to get out a message and have something that has some structure, I came to an agreement.”

No ‘personal issues’

Meanwhile, after Heritage suggested that the Premier may not have wanted to take any questions from the panelists due to persons having a personal issue against him and issues being legal matters, Percival called back to rant.

“I have no personal issue with the young man on the phone, with the Premier…But if this Premier wants to be acting like nobody should be questioning him, that is fine. He is in charge and yall have a wonderful day,” Percival stated.

The Premier calmly responded that he also had no personal issues with Mr Percival.

Premier responds to Percival’s question

Regarding Mr Percival’s question, Dr Wheatley said the Permanent Secretary Carolyn E. Stoutt-Igwe is the PS responsible for tourism and she also serves on the Tourist Board. “She is my representative on the Tourist Board and somewhat of a voice of the Tourist Board in the delegation and also, as you would know, I am the Minister for Tourism.”

He said environmental matters were handled by Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2). “When it came to the environmental aspect of the meetings, he was participating via a virtual call…and that also applies to the Minister of Education who joined us on a virtual call when we were on with the University of Southampton…” Dr Wheatley explained.

You are right, the premier is poor. Poor judgement, poor leadership, poor relationship with the people of these Virgin Islands, poor deliverance of his speeches etc. He is poor in everyway. But aint nobody out for his blood.

I understand your statement but don't state the Premier is poor even if you meant it as being sympathetic. Words have power.

Who is Damian to be questioning anyone? Why doesn't he try to find a form of employment, instead of political appointments?

It is clear that our Premier lacks the maturity and competence to handle many of the issues facing the BVI, although he is probably doing the best he can. We should have known the intended purpose of his visit to the UK, but he handled it in true dictatorial style. The system is broken and our leaders need direction. The last thing we need is to have an election using the same broken system. Like our ancestors used to say coco bay on top a yaws. We need help Brothers and Sisters, the folks that created the problem are incapable of fixing it!!!!!

      Agree ????

We see the problem of this issue right there.
Only Heritage should have asked questions.
Damien should have given his questions to Heritage.
      Stop making wrong into right!

It is one thing to ask a question that does not mean I will answer you for what you want to hear may not be the answer you are looking for. However its talking season and while you may have stated you don't have an issue with the premier action speaks louder than words. It is evident that the head and the heart not connecting properly. You many not respect the person but you must have some respect for the position he or her holds. That is the key to unlocking proper communication and dialogue.

Respect, respect respect our parents always instilled that in our heads.

Did you find the secret society/the elites to get your answer because this puppet reads the World stage script and the elites don't come of the script so don't look for an answer until they write a script for him. You all really need to wake up and stop doing the devil work. Where's the Almighty Creator work every time it's negative and the dumb masses love that. I can't watch or like to hear the drama talk all positive so positive things can come out of Life. No romedel for the youths now a days because they turn on the radio this is what's on pure drama. Turn on the tv pure killing, raping, down , division etc so what do people expect will keep happening. I pray you all get right fast because it's skull and bones year and it going to be very rough on Rich and poor

Why didnt he just answer then. Guess he had to wait for the reply by whatsapp message or something. Why only Heritage to ask questions? I guess Heritage was told what he should ask him. Anyhow, waste of time regardless. Next...

These type of donkeys have the schools invaded by their progenies, sporting their lethal weapons, misbehaving and creating mayhem. Listening and following rules for orderliness is an affront to their stupidity . Education as a result, has taken a nosedive, creating uncertainty for the chance of a progressive future.

When I heard the premier's response I was like wow! He just killed his re election but then he explained after about the agreement he had with Heritage. HOWEVER, I think the question was reasonable - not personal and he could have answered it which he did after the caller hung up. Dr Wheatley has to understand that he is in a hot seat. Some will like you some will hate you. But you cannot let people get under your skin. You have to be prepared to deal with all kinds of people and do so in a professional manner.

Finally somebody with common sense and intelligence has commented. The Premier works for the people not the other way around. He is answerable to every man on the street. He hasn’t been doing that. And I agree, he killed his chances to be re elected. But then again based on his interview is like 80% of the BVI population is he and heritage cousin.
