PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has urged recent graduates of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) to come up with solutions to local problems as they may have the next billion-dollar idea.

“Many of the problems facing the Virgin Islands are also being faced by other countries large and small. Some examples include recycling and waste management, the impacts of climate change, threats to mangroves and marine ecosystems, food and water security, just to name a few,” he said.

Speaking during the June 1, 2022, edition of the graduation ceremony held at Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium in Paraquita Bay, Tortola, the Premier reminded graduates they live in a globalised world.

Premier Wheatley urged graduates to remember that not because of the size of the VI, should they be discouraged from thinking big, "Do not fall into that trap," he said.

Solutions can be scaled for other markets - Premier

“And many of the solutions that you will develop in the course of your career dealing with local problems can be exported and scaled up – or scaled down – for other markets.”

He added, “Keep this in mind because you could find yourself sitting on the next billion-dollar idea.”

Dr Wheatley assured those present that as Premier, he wants to see every one of the graduates succeed in life.

“The rest of the Government and all the people of the Virgin Islands want the same thing for you. You have our support, and we will give you all the encouragement we can,” he said.

He reminded students, however, that support and encouragement will not get the job done if they do not put in the effort and hard work.

“But we know that you have the indomitable spirit of determination and success inside of you. You are Virgin Islands people after all. And therefore we have full confidence in you,” he added.

Jobs are easy to find. Just cancel some wok permits and enforce the labour code that says companies MUST train workers. However, that will not sit well with all who are here seeking jobs and all who still want to come because the BVI miraculously creates jobs for ALL who want one.

My goodness you were the one who said as the deputy premier it was ok to suspend the tender process to be able to award jobs to cronies snd family members and the ones who buy out the tender process with the high school process where you have members of the RDA working for different construction companies and I hope that the governor will continue to investigate and to investigate the contracts that was given out on the house of assembly the speaker is not going to tell you about those contracts but they will tell you about everything else keep the investigations on
