The new world of the strongman
The New World Order has just reared its head in Africa. Democracy and the Rule of Law are notions under assault.
MAGA USA and the Evangelical Right, after condemning the oppression and slaughter of Christians in Nigeria by Islamists and terrorists, have succeeded in getting their Leader, Donald Trump, to intervene.
In early November 2025, Donald Trump warned the Nigerian Government that if the mass murder of Christians was not stopped, the USA would attack Islamist terror groups in Nigeria with "all guns blazing" as Trump put it.
In the Caribbean, US military assets appear poised for an attack on Venezuela and probably Colombia, using the idea of a war against drug cartels who threaten the US mainland.
The preceding are unilateral exertions by the US President. Ironically, a number of residents in these regions support an aggressive Donald Trump, as one method of changing the status quo to their benefit.
In Europe, politicians and business kiss Trump’s ring. American capital rules Western European markets from Boeing and Lockheed Martin to Amazon and Google. The largest and most powerful businesses are all US-owned and drive daily life practically everywhere.
The West, especially, is a vassal of a USA that deploys the Dollar and its capital markets as the prime tool of global hegemony.
European countries cannot challenge Donald Trump. The fear is that he can destroy their economies at the stroke of his pen, with a hefty tariff or market sanctions. Access to the US market is the lifeblood of the Western economy.
In Latin America and Africa, governments are complicit in the illegal activities of cartels and terrorists. That is nothing new. Tolerance of these regimes by global agencies has been a Modus Vivendi for over 80 years.
Today, it appears the USA is taking off the velvet glove in dealing with what it terms as "bad actors".
On the other hand, the ascending superpower China frowns at this intervention in the internal affairs of states by the USA. China’s policy in international affairs is non-interference.
However, can noninterference be sustainable in matters of genocide, or when a country threatens the global order?
It took external interference to prevent the Balkans from further deteriorating. US interference in the Middle East has enabled Israel to become the region's sole superpower. US interference on the high seas and skies has kept travel and trade safe.
It appears a New World Order has replaced the Old Order of the past 80 years, where US-created agencies managed global affairs, such as the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organisation.
Today, Strongmen and their militaries decide where the axe falls next, and not any international organization, whether the United Nations or World Trade Organization. Long Live the King is the new order.
