ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Just as was first and accurately reported by our news centre on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, a new political party has emerged.

The People’s Leadership Movement (PLM), headed by former legislator and prominent businessman Mr Mark H. Vanterpool, is the new kid on the block.

Mr Vanterpool, who lost the leadership contest for the National Democratic Party (NDP) last month in an internal election, made clear that Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), the NDP boss, cannot lead him.

He has since formed his own political party and will today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, have his first event. The PLM leader has invited the public and the media to discuss the new movement and has noted: “whoever will may join.”

The PLM?

The new political party is offering, according to their flyers, strong leadership, real solutions and "a better BVI for all". Mr Vanterpool told a local media house that at today’s event, his committee will be on hand and he will outline his plans for the movement and seek input.

The new PLM leader also promised a press conference so the public can further understand his vision.

Meanwhile, many political commentators noted that this new political party will pull votes from the Marlon A. Penn-led NDP. It is believed many NDP candidates are already reconsidering staying on under Mr Penn’s Leadership. It is alleged that one NDP candidate who was planning to run in District 4, Mrs Sandy M. Harrigan-Underhill, has left the NDP and joined a new group believed to be the 'All 13'.

More fallout is expected, and all eyes are on Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) to see what his move will be and if he will be led by Hon Penn, someone he already said in private cannot lead him. Following the NDP internal election, Hon Penn claimed that they were unified, but it turned out to be quite different.

Been watching things and I believe one of two things will happen at the next election.
    1. There will be so many candidates that voters will pick who they think is best suited to represent them and we will have a coalition government. Or
    2. The VIP will hold the majority of their base, the remaining block of voters will be split between the other parties and the VIP will retain the government.

As always, this will be another interesting election. Ting to talk!!!!

If Hon.Walwyn joins Mark its game over . With Mark's vision and innovation and Walwyn legal acumen M &M will build momentum. Hon.Skelton will join becasue he is a seasoned politican and can see a path to victory. Because of his large company mark is accustomed of putting together large effective teams that must execute. And although he has been in the political arena for many years ,this will be his first opportunity to do so .A businessman bring a different competancy to the table , while academia lives in hypothesis and deliberation business is required to be decisive and to act with purpose. To get it done. This will be the first realistic challenge to the VIP who up until now was looking at a landslide victory.

As true as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, white is to rice, brick and mortar go together, bread and butter, etc, so too will Myron Walwyn join PLM. Fellow commenter Raw, Unvarnished and Unfiltered ask if the loaded question if this whole affair had a tie to “ The Above Rock. Mentality.”? What is the Above Round Rock? Well, when the BVI was a presidency in the Leeward Islands Federation which was headquartered in Antigua. The BVI legislature was suspended in 1901 ( reinstated in 1950 post Dolph Faulkner Great March of 1949). Further, the BVI was the last presidency to get secondary education and acquiring a secondary school came with a fight. After much agitation, advocacy, protest, a small secondary school came in 1948. It was small and admittance was for the most part reserve for the elite, ie, Town people. Full secondary school access came in 1968. Consequently, secondary education not reaching a critical mass, the Leeward Islands Federation maintaining control and running things sent civil servants from other presidencies, etc, to work in the BVI, ie, police, teachers, custom officers, nurses, etc. This created some friction, for the external workers, though not all, would throw their presence, need to be in the bVI, because the locals were duncy heads. Thus the Above Round Rock, one of the 59 islands, cats and rocks which makes the BVI, mentality. Some may have heard the phrase, “ you think I come from above Round Rock.” Is the prevailing winds of this attitude and behavior still howling and blowing???

The BVI cultivated, watered, what it is happening to it and its people. Another blogger equated what is happening to the Boiled Frog metaphor. For example, if a frog is put in boiling hot water it will jump out. On the other hand , if a frog is put in lukewarm water it relaxes and feel comfortable. However, if the water is gradually heated up, the frog will boil to death. Similarly, the tolerated many small events, ie, putting in place and enforcing requisite policies, failing to recognize the adverse trsukts which would occur.. Now the BVI is suffering the consequences of failing to take timely actions. In some instances things may have reached a point of no return.

Moreover, the attitude displayed by some politicians towards other politicians is reprehensible, ie., “ lil. Boy”. Was the belittling, dragging down, etc, of others deliberate, ie, part of the political discourse, ie,., the politics of personal destruction? True, politics is not for choir boys or choir girls? E. Leonard, a fellow blogger notes politcs is about conflict, disagreement, war without bloodshed. Is this factual and encouraging bad political behavior?

Further, many others have posit that the wealthy feel a sense of special privilege and entitlement to lead. Does the accumulation of wealth equate to being an effective leader? Historical do wealthy demonstrate an overwhelming record of success? Do most wealthy demonstrate humilty, civility, etc? Should a halo effect be heap on people who have accumulated wealth, crowning them as effective political leaders? If a good businessman equates automatically as a good political leader why have two courses of study? Why not just study business and call it George? In addition to power, status, and influence, is the recent doubling of elected members to the HoA fueling the interest in political office? Oh, I forgot about the generous “ Greedy Bill.”. Are VI voters being bamboozled, given a 6 for 9? Is dependency, political patronage, similar regional ancestry, etc, driving politics? Are the real issues being shunted aside in the pursuit of political opportunism?

Every manjack now want to run for politics. The ethos of every politicians should be the public interest first, second, third, not self-.interest first, second or third..,,or ever. If by chance PLM were to be victorious at the poll, ie, winning 7/8 seats , we know who will be the first foreign born Premier, who will be the Deputy Premier? Will it be MW? Is a battle royale in the offing between two bulls and may be heifer as to who will emerge as Premier. If it is a woman, that wiil be unprecedented and first for the BVI. A lot of firsts are probable. Is a coalition government probable again? Is a lot of horse trading going to go down. Will be the ethos of BVI be displayed?

Watch Anguilla, Antigua and Dominica join forces against real Virgin Islanders. Pay attention! This is what happens when you give away your rights because UK said to. Now an Anguillan is forming a party to be joined by an Antiguan and a Dominican. Only one born here. All 3 claim their mother lands.

@ Virgin Islander, I endorsed calling the Virgin Islands by its legal name , ie, Virgin Islands, not British Virgin Islands( BV). BVI is used as a differentiator between it and United States Virgin Islands( USVI) which is trying to usurp and used the Virgin Islands as name.

Businessman and former political minister Mark Vanterpool and our current Premier have a certain in common, they are both incompetent, and they both lover of more and the chief position in the political hierarchy foe personal and family reasons. In spite of Mark Vanterpool greedy mindset set both he and now At Large minister Ronnie Skelton are more qualified to lead the B.V.I out of the financial quagmire we now face, Ronnie Skelton moreso than Mark because, Ronnie Skelton, inter is more BVI centered, but on the contrary, Mark Vanterpool, interest included his birthplace, Anguilla affiliates development of his and close family members, politically interest.

Since been elected to political officers Marlon Penn hasn't proven himself. Our current Ho. Premieris both a liar and a sellout. Waste of time and money, party minister, father hater, Mr. Douglas Wheatley.

The reason we do not have a coalition NDP, PUP, PMP government is because Vanterpool encourage Lorna to jump (allegedly). Lorna has since jumped back and forth like a grasshopper, similar to Vanterpool, allegedly. Either the money drying up or this is a tactic to sway votes from the party he did not get leadership of. Do you really want a brother and sister sitting one on government and the other on opposition? What kind of Bachanal is this? Its like a game. How much money can we suck from the public purse, be it NHI, bank of Asia bailout, perks of ministerial appointments...come on people. Don't be silly.
