The Mark H. Vanterpoool-led PLM to have first event today!
The People’s Leadership Movement (PLM), headed by former legislator and prominent businessman Mr Mark H. Vanterpool, is the new kid on the block.
Mr Vanterpool, who lost the leadership contest for the National Democratic Party (NDP) last month in an internal election, made clear that Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), the NDP boss, cannot lead him.
He has since formed his own political party and will today, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, have his first event. The PLM leader has invited the public and the media to discuss the new movement and has noted: “whoever will may join.”
The PLM?
The new political party is offering, according to their flyers, strong leadership, real solutions and "a better BVI for all". Mr Vanterpool told a local media house that at today’s event, his committee will be on hand and he will outline his plans for the movement and seek input.
The new PLM leader also promised a press conference so the public can further understand his vision.
Meanwhile, many political commentators noted that this new political party will pull votes from the Marlon A. Penn-led NDP. It is believed many NDP candidates are already reconsidering staying on under Mr Penn’s Leadership. It is alleged that one NDP candidate who was planning to run in District 4, Mrs Sandy M. Harrigan-Underhill, has left the NDP and joined a new group believed to be the 'All 13'.
More fallout is expected, and all eyes are on Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) to see what his move will be and if he will be led by Hon Penn, someone he already said in private cannot lead him. Following the NDP internal election, Hon Penn claimed that they were unified, but it turned out to be quite different.

1. There will be so many candidates that voters will pick who they think is best suited to represent them and we will have a coalition government. Or
2. The VIP will hold the majority of their base, the remaining block of voters will be split between the other parties and the VIP will retain the government.
As always, this will be another interesting election. Ting to talk!!!!
No one knows, i do not believe he brings stable leadership.
PEOPLE DONT FORGET THE C****ION THIS MAN HAS DONE IN THE PAST. ALSO HIM JUMPING FROM PARTY TO PARTY. HE ONLY CARES ABOUT HIMSELF AND WHAT HE CAN BENEFIT. HE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE COUNTRY. DONT FALL FOR THE HAND OUTS AND BRIBERY. THIS ISN'T WHAT WE WANT FOR OUR COUNTRY. DONT FORGET PEOPLE. DISGRACE TO OUR COUNTRY.
The BVI cultivated, watered, what it is happening to it and its people. Another blogger equated what is happening to the Boiled Frog metaphor. For example, if a frog is put in boiling hot water it will jump out. On the other hand , if a frog is put in lukewarm water it relaxes and feel comfortable. However, if the water is gradually heated up, the frog will boil to death. Similarly, the tolerated many small events, ie, putting in place and enforcing requisite policies, failing to recognize the adverse trsukts which would occur.. Now the BVI is suffering the consequences of failing to take timely actions. In some instances things may have reached a point of no return.
Moreover, the attitude displayed by some politicians towards other politicians is reprehensible, ie., “ lil. Boy”. Was the belittling, dragging down, etc, of others deliberate, ie, part of the political discourse, ie,., the politics of personal destruction? True, politics is not for choir boys or choir girls? E. Leonard, a fellow blogger notes politcs is about conflict, disagreement, war without bloodshed. Is this factual and encouraging bad political behavior?
Further, many others have posit that the wealthy feel a sense of special privilege and entitlement to lead. Does the accumulation of wealth equate to being an effective leader? Historical do wealthy demonstrate an overwhelming record of success? Do most wealthy demonstrate humilty, civility, etc? Should a halo effect be heap on people who have accumulated wealth, crowning them as effective political leaders? If a good businessman equates automatically as a good political leader why have two courses of study? Why not just study business and call it George? In addition to power, status, and influence, is the recent doubling of elected members to the HoA fueling the interest in political office? Oh, I forgot about the generous “ Greedy Bill.”. Are VI voters being bamboozled, given a 6 for 9? Is dependency, political patronage, similar regional ancestry, etc, driving politics? Are the real issues being shunted aside in the pursuit of political opportunism?
Since been elected to political officers Marlon Penn hasn't proven himself. Our current Ho. Premieris both a liar and a sellout. Waste of time and money, party minister, father hater, Mr. Douglas Wheatley.
