NDP snubbed? Mark H. Vanterpool to bring his own party for 2027 elections!
Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) came in last. Also narrowly defeated for the post of Deputy Chairman of the NDP was Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6), who received 57 votes, while the winner, Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2), obtained 64 votes.
Following the election, there have been allegations made by Mr Vanterpool and other social commentators, and party members of voter rigging by padding the NDP delegate list with supporters of Hon Penn and not putting on many of the traditional NDP voters and the old guards who have long supported the party in many of the districts.
Another break-up
There has also been a high-profile reaction after the NDP internal election, with public blasting of Mr Vanterpool after he took off the NDP branding from his SUV and harsh words from former interim party president John I Cline saying, “Mr Vanterpool is for self”.
Now comes word that Mr Vanterpool has indeed left the NDP and has said, both privately and publicly, that “Hon Penn cannot lead me as he has never ran a candy store....”
Mr Vanterpool is expected to start his own group called PLM (not sure what the letters stand for) with the colour yellow. He told supporters recently outside a funeral in Sea Cows Bay that what I am bringing is “it’s not a party but a movement”. It is unclear when he would announce the group officially and who is on his ticket.
He noted that he has no confidence in Hon Penn to lead him and the country, hence he is starting his own group as the country at this stage in its development needs a savvy “businessman to get things done....we need a real leader as Premier, not a little boy.”
It is also unclear if Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) will be a member of this new breakaway movement, as he has stated to friends that Hon Penn cannot lead him.
Neither Mr Vanterpool nor Honourable Walwyn responded to our request for their comment.
NDP History of falling apart
The NDP has a long history of breakups. It was in 2018 when Hon Walwyn won the NDP Chairmanship that Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) broke away from the NDP and formed the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM).
Then, in 2025, there was a further breakaway from the PVIM when Hon Walwyn led a new group in the House of Assembly called the Alliance and ousted Hon Skelton as Opposition Leader. Hon Walwyn's new party had begun to recruit candidates for the 2027 elections.
Then last year, it was announced that both the PVIM and the Alliance had gone back to the NDP and were “united”. However, following the April NDP internal election, another breakaway is expected anytime soon, this time led by Mr Vanterpool.
Real Unity?
Meanwhile, the ruling Virgin Islands Party (VIP) led by Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), who is party Chairman and Premier, remains stable with no challenge to its leadership. Hon Lorna G. Smith OBE (AL), a Junior Minister in the Dr Wheatley Administration, has joined the VIP, according to party insiders and Hon Stacey R. Mather MBE (AL) is expected to follow, making the VIP a force to be reckoned with in the 2027 general elections.
There is expected to be up to five political parties/groups contesting the 2027 general elections, including the anonymous ‘All 13’, the NDP, the Mark H. Vanterpool-led PLM, a group being formed by a Virgin Islander (last name allegedly Lettsome) from the western side of Tortola, and the ruling VIP.

I know too much about Marlon to let him get through the cracks and not tell my people. He could go away with that. Marlon is to be blamed for the current state of East end and many lives destroyed... He could never get my vote.
Isn't this the same guy who stormed into ZBVI to dismiss forming his own party. Oh, he only tried to dismiss that his sister was running with him. What a circus. At this point I don't care who wins or loses. They are all self serving.
People knows about you toooooo.
Sunday past was so-called Mothers Day celebration day. Our Premier went to various denominational religious organized churches, and gifted the Mothers with a gift of one (1), two (2) candies, one (1) sma bottles of apple vider, one (2) kiss size chocolate, one (1) nose pad with writing pen. His silent messaged was: Vote for me next elections day because I have represented you well. What a laugh, an insult, a disrespectful action with a photo smile of himself grening as if he is honest, but he knows that he isn't.
Hon. Marlon is a ambitious political leaders since 2011. He is partly a follower, but not a leader as our current Premier isn't. Former political minister Mark Vanterpool: His honey is more money, not the interest of the people of the B.V.I.
Hon. Ronnie Skelton: He is knowledgeable businessman, smart, has great political experience, but too much in love with money as all past and present political leaders of the B.V.I was, are, and probably should be viewed.
However, an intire new and unexperienced group of political leaders will mall no sense, especially in time as this world political unstabilties happenings. Whether we want to or not, we are at a juncture where a change of government is necessary beginning with the the Premier.
Even though you are a politician to take care of your district the premier has to give the money. Marlon can’t do nothing about the roads not be fixed because he is on the opposite side and it will be difficult, Marlon was the only tuff it out when all others left the party it would have been unfair for mark to be a traitor and still want head of position.
I am sorry but if you going say Marlon ain’t doing nothing I can say premier ain’t doing nothing but giving party money.
Y’all must be fair and stop listening to others and watch the facts.

WHAT IF
In the enthusiastic crucible of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), an audacious transformation is unfolding, sparked by the formidable partnership of Mark Vanterpool and Atty. Janice A. Stoutt. What if the spark catches on or a fire breaks out as "J-Mark," this duo certainly marries pragmatism with intellectual vigor, setting the stage to tackle the complexities of governance head-on on day one!
In a realm where resilience and creativity converge, Vanterpool, the "Action Man," embodies a relentless drive for progress. With sleeves rolled up and an eye on the prize, he asserts, “Leaders lead from the front; it’s time to act decisively for our future!” His ability to connect deeply with the community transforms dreams into concrete plans, setting every conversation alight with potential.
Atty. Janice A. Stoutt complements Vanterpool's energy with her sharp legal acumen and quick wit. She navigates the labyrinth of governance with the finesse of a maestro, asserting, “Let’s turn the page of history together, crafting a narrative rich in pride and progress.” Her humility in addressing complex legal matters builds an empowering environment that elevates marginalized voices, ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table.
United under the rallying cry of “Rise Up VI!” and the invigorating catchphrase “Together, We Thrive!”, Vanterpool and Stoutt challenge every citizen to engage actively in the governance process. Their alliance is a vibrant reminder of the strength found in unity, as captured in songs resonating throughout the islands.
From "We Are the Future" by The VI All Stars, we hear, “In unity, our strength shines bright.” This is not just a motto; it’s a call to collective action that can rise above adversity. Similarly, Luta’s poignant lyrics in "BVI Land of My Birth" remind us that, “You can’t take away my pride; this land is our pride.” Together, they summon every citizen to embrace their roots while envisioning a transformative future.
The "J-Mark" initiative represents a unique opportunity to address the pressing issues of infrastructure, human rights, and community involvement. By forging collaborative partnerships and empowering citizens to take an active role, they aim to redefine what it means to lead in the BVI.
This partnership exemplifies a new dynamic in politics, where action ignites intention and humor fuels wisdom. Vanterpool transforms visions into realities, while Stoutt confronts legal intricacies with unparalleled skill, promising a brighter tomorrow for the BVI.
As we stand at this pivotal juncture, the partnership between Mark Vanterpool and Atty. Janice A. Stoutt embodies the audacity and resilience of the BVI. Their coalition, "J-Mark," represents the sweet heart deal needed to reenergize governance and inspire collective action.
So, dear reader, after witnessing the potential for profound change, one cannot help but wonder: If not now, when? The time for action is upon us, and it is essential to recognize and appreciate the efforts of all involved in this transformative journey.

The following is an AI Overview of the Westminster system and political parties:
“ political parties are central to the Westminster system. The system is predicated on a competitive, party-based structure where the party or coalition with the majority support in the lower house forms the government, while opposition parties provide scrutiny, forming a "shadow” government.” Under the Westminster system, the leader of the party with the most support from other elected members normally is sworn as leader of government,ie, Prime Minister, Premier, Chief Minister, etc. The party in power generally enjoy a” collective responsibility” support from other members of government.
Moreover, political parties come and go. There can only be one leader at a time but still everyone wants to be leader, ie, Premier of the Virgin Islands(British). Currently, there is the ruling VIP, NDP, PVIM (?), PU, The Alliance, , All 13 Must Go, and latest entry PLM. Current structural election laws, ie, First-Past-The-Poll ( winner- takes -all) vice proportional representation results typically in two major parties, for the electorate does not want to waste their votes on a third party. That is the way she goes. The way the ball bounces. You got to roll with the punches. Who, which party(s) , will Past- the -Poll first and second.? Who will lose their deposit? Is the deposit a poll tax, keeping the riff raff from exercising the system, being an annoyance?
In business, operators can target only the customers they want to serve. Conversely, though government can adopt some of businesses Best Management Practices ( BMP), it has to deliver services to all residents, not just a targeted few. Two slightly related and different skill sets are needed to effectively and efficiently run business, and run government.
Leadership skills are inherently behavioral; they are not hereditary; they have to be learnt and experience earned. Words in action are more effective than words on paper, or mere words.
Moreover, US linguist and political philosopher Noam Chomsky notes, “Everybody has to make sure that the rich folk are happy.” Is this the driving force in creating extractive political and economic institutions, which cater to a select few and which may also to according to many create special privileges and entitlements?
Politics is the art of compromise. It is war without bloodshed( Mao Zedong). It is about political animals working interactively and cooperatively to make laws and construct institutions to satisfy social order and justice.
Nevertheless, the animating force in politics is disagreement, conflict, etc, for without either there is no politics. Consequently, the launching of this new party—PLM—-is ripe, if only with perceived conflict, controversy, disagreements, etc. But this the essence of politics.Hopefully, vibrant, healthy debate can ensue. I have no dog in this fight.
I can only imagine VINO next satire cartoon, seeing marlon in diapers, sitting on a tricycle. Lol! This elections going to be hot, hot, hot, with nuclear bombs tossing at each other. Action already start. Welsah.
The era of self-serving officials whose primary concern is personal enrichment must come to an end. Too many enter public office not with a commitment to service, but with the intention of advancing their own interests and securing benefits for themselves and their inner circles. Such leadership does not place the people of the Virgin Islands first, nor does it inspire confidence in the future of the Territory.
The emergence of so-called “new parties” must also be carefully scrutinized. In many cases, these political arrangements appear less about national progress and more about positioning individuals as kingmakers in pursuit of high-ranking offices such as Deputy Premier. When political maneuvering is driven by ambition rather than principle, the public interest inevitably suffers.
What should matter most to voters is the quality of leadership being offered: individuals with sound ideas, proven ability, and a genuine commitment to strengthening and diversifying the pillars of the BVI economy. Whether those candidates emerge from established parties or from a strong field of capable independents is ultimately secondary. What matters is that they possess the vision, discipline, and patriotism necessary to move the Virgin Islands forward.
At this critical stage in the Territory’s development, the BVI deserves leadership that is motivated not by personal gain, but by a sincere desire to build a stronger, fairer, and more prosperous society for all.
If Mark Vanterpool with his greedyminded mindset becomes Premier, what would become of the people of the B.V.I future, especially small money earners, minimum wage paid persons?
If the majority of people were to support so-called self-centered mindset thinking, everyman for himself, and God for us all, so-called crookedness minded people, what is to be expected of the future generations????
Those are only a few of the questions people of future ash need to ask ourselves, now.
Don't retain the status quo, nor should you support crooked Mark Vanterpool. In other words, Mark, Mark Vanterpool crooked plot.
Don't support, Vanterpool Mark, nor his PLM Party coming next general elections. A vote for him and his political party members will be counter productive against the majority of the people of the British Virgin Islands better, muchless best, interest, even worst than VIP performances from former Premier, Andrew Fahie to now lead by our current Premier, you know who, Weathley
