CHRISTIANSTED, Sr. Croix, USVI- In a recent development connected to a mass shooting incident that occurred in March, a suspect identified as Everton Rutherford has turned himself in to the V.I. Police Department.

The incident, which took place in the early hours of March 4 in the vicinity of the old Tipsy Iguana Bar & Lounge in the Peters Rest area, had resulted in six people — four males and two females — being injured by gunfire and transported to Juan F. Luis Hospital, the VIPD reported.

According to police records, the 911 Emergency Call Center had received reports about the shooting at around 3:01 a.m. Upon arrival, the officers learned of the casualties and launched an immediate investigation.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau made contact with community members who revealed that the shooting incident had erupted from an argument among several male individuals armed with guns. One of the males involved in the incident was identified as Rutherford.

Further investigation led to the case being filed with the Superior Court on June 29. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued for Rutherford, with his bail set at $50,000.

Rutherford surrendered to authorities on July 11 at approximately 3:50 p.m. at the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station. He was advised of his Miranda Rights and was arrested without any incident, according to the VIPD.

Unable to post his bail, Rutherford was booked and transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility. He is now awaiting his Advice of Rights Hearing at the Superior Court scheduled for Wednesday.

I wish more criminals were unable to post bail because there would be fewer of them on the streets, committing offenses over and over.

Most of the time you see a criminal they have dread locks. To me that is a disrespect to the true Rastafarians.

Why do you think the so-called elders never publicly denounced those who wear them and do crime. There are some of them who go far into the religion and are still rude and ignorant

To the young black men in ALL the Virgin Islands. Calculate the future cost of your actions and decisions. Often times the result is death or long jail sentences. Check your self before you wreck your self. Man up.

Sad to see the slow process of justice is not just here in BVI. Incident occurred March 4, case files in superior court June 29, suspect surrenders July 11. AT this rate he should get a trial in what April 2026?
