ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Manager of the Showtime band, Roger Frank has resigned from the band. This comes just on the heels of Showtime having been awarded the Best Soca Band of the Year prize at the recently held International Soca Awards Show held on August 31, 2012 in New York.

Speaking with this news site yesterday September 13, 2012, current band manager Ottley Hodge confirmed that Frank resigned earlier this week after deciding to pursue new endeavours. He said the split was amicable and there was no malice involved.

“He has come to a point in his life where he has other things that he wants to pursue so he has parted ways with the band,” Hodge related.

Hodge expressed that Frank is still considered as part of the band in spite of his resignation. “Once Showtime, always Showtime,” he said “in any which way.”

“We are grateful for the work that he put in, for the years that he was there,” he added.

Addressing concerns that the six-time Road March Champions might be breaking up, Hodge said “Showtime is not breaking up.”  Persons who might be speculating this, he indicated, might have hidden agendas. They are just instigating talk about things they don’t know of. “Showtime is still here.”

The band manager said that they are expected to perform at UPs tonight (September 14, 2012).

The band’s focus at the time is on acquiring visas to work in the US as there are plans in place to take the band to the international stage.

They will also continue to focus on local traditional functions for the VI.

I have been observing for quite sometime that while publicly Roger Frank is known to be the band manager, Mr. Ottley Hodge has been vocal as if he was the manager. I will not speculate on whether or not this continuous occurence, may have factored into Roger's decision however what is clear is that each member of the band need to understand their individual roles. I will be devil's advocate and question whether or not the band collectively has made the interim decision that Mr. Hodge is the current manager, or whether he [Ottley] is self appointed.

What is clear is that for this band to continue to progress to the next level, it needs to take on the form of a well run business, and all members of the band irrespective of their length of time in the band has to approve, and respect the management structure when one is established. Not everytime a journalist, or someone with a mic asks you a question, you must feel obliged to comment. Sometimes the most diplomatic answer avoids opening a can of worms. Tact is needed.
