ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Police Information Office reports that the RVIPF are investigating a shooting that occurred sometime around 22:00 (ten p.m.) last night in the Baugher’s Bay area.

The victim, Clyde Ferreira, 54, a native of the Commonwealth of Dominica, presented himself to Peebles Hospital last night with gunshot wounds to his legs and lower body. His injuries are not regarded as life- threatening.

Mr. Ferreira told Officers that he was unlocking his vehicle at around ten p.m. on Thursday night after visiting friends in the area, when he became aware of a masked man, dressed in black, hiding in the bushes. This man, it was alleged, pointed a handgun at the victim, causing the victim to turn and run.

The unknown assailant then fired the handgun at the victim several times, causing the injuries to the lower part of his body. Officers subsequently searching the scene found three spent shells nearby.

The RVIPF is urgently trying to establish a motive for this allegedly unprovoked attack and investigations continue.

The RVIPF ask any person with any information regarding this matter to contact Road Town Police Station on the non-emergency “311” number, the Crime Investigation Unit on 494-3822, or the independent and completely anonymous CRIMESTOPPERS tips line on 800 8477. All calls will be treated in the strictest confidence.
