ASUNCION, Paraguay, SA- The Virgin Islands’ (VI) only medallist at the 2025 Junior Pan Am Games is encouraging others to shoot for the stars.

Jaleel N. Croal, who won silver in the 200m and bronze in the 100m on Thursday, August 21, 2025, and Wednesday, August 20, 2025, respectively, said he is elated following his performance at the games being held in Asuncion, Paraguay.

Super grateful to God

Croal, in an interview following his final race, said, “I was just grateful just because I had a long season and to be able to do something like this around these times is amazing, and I'm super grateful to God and whatnot for giving me the ability to do all these things.”

During his 200m race, he ran 20.39- a time that beat the Games’ 200m record of 20.51.

The young sprinter said he is also “happy” that he can show the young people that anything is possible.

His advice to the youth is, “Believe in themselves and just shoot for the stars, shoot for the stars.”

I did a decent job- Wanyaé Belle

The 200m event was a historic one for the VI, as Croal was joined by fellow VI sprinter Wanyaé Belle, who placed 5th with a time of 20.84.

Belle said that while his 100m race did not go as planned, he thinks he did well in the finals of the 200m event.

“Coming in fifth place and running 20.8, I did a decent job, I would say.”

It’s amazing to see time after time how our athletes rise to the occasion and get the job done. Who knows it feels it, it’s crazy how the BVIOC be the first to celebrate and take pictures but yet the same athletes be fighting with them for basic support. Know they recognize the talent this young man possesses I really hope they do right by him unlike so many athletes that get the s$%T end of the stick

We are so proud of you, Jaleel. We will continue to cheer you on as you build and grow and fly on those tracks. I love track and field and seeing you, Belle, Kybah and Brathwaite at this meet and all the other athletes, Kyron, Chantel, The Gumbs twins twice over, Adeajah who are competing on a high level overall, makes me smile and feel immense pride for this little country filled with talented young men and women. Just ten years ago, there were one or two. Now so many of you excelling. May your training continue injury free and may you go forward realising all your goals and competing with excellence. I look forward to the months and years to come. Congratulations.
