ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Following numerous complaints by members of the public and after experiencing first-hand the length of time it sometimes takes for police reports on traffic accidents to be processed, a member of the public has written to the Commissioner of Police Mark Collins to rectify the issue.

Mrs Lorna E. Tom noted that in recent times there have been several complaints and concerns raised by members of the community regarding the difficulties and delays they encounter when trying to access important documents and reports from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

“It is evident that this issue is causing a significant level of frustration and inconvenience for individuals who require access to police reports for various reasons, including insurance claims, legal proceedings, and personal records.

‘Eroding trust’

“The lack of efficiency in providing these documents is hindering the ability of citizens to navigate important matters and eroding their trust in the police department,” Mrs Tom informed Mr Collins in the letter seen by our News Centre.

In fact, Mrs Tom informed our News Centre that she made an application for a police report on a traffic accident in January and, despite follow-ups, she has not received it to date.

“As the head of the police department, I urge you to address this matter with urgency and implement measures to streamline the process of obtaining police reports. Improving the accessibility and timeliness of these documents will not only enhance the level of service provided by the department but also foster a greater sense of trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the community,” Mrs Tom stated in the letter to the CoP.

She said she trusts the Commissioner "again" will take the necessary steps to rectify this issue and ensure that the public’s concerns are addressed promptly.

The police think because they are can do as they like just because they are police and the Dpp is backing them when they are wrong that's why they can't win any case

The number 1 reason is the these new police officers are a dunce, can't use a computer, majority of the new police are from ex security firm, that was always on cellphone or sleeping on the job, they write an exam which was simple procedure but can't comprehend what role to play in society.

I've been waiting for information from them and return emails or phone calls since late 2018 after a number of
incidents in sept and oct 2018. I am in the states, and these people don't answer. Neither does the premier or
governor for that matter. This many years. I am owed an explaination and apologies and compensation, and
even some of my property from when I lived in the BVI is still being held by former landlord. This reported to
the police over and over. Same with higher ups. Silence. I don't even have a copy of all the paperwork and
my recorded testimony I gave to the police back then. Talk about guilty behaviour and covering up for the bad
locals. Things were going down hill for some time insofar as human behaviour anyway. At my expense. Those
good 'ol US dollars that line your territories pockets. You have a lot of crappy people there, that those who
should know better, should have long gotten rid of, one way or another. You owe me my stuff and money that
I invested to live in the BVI. You ruined my life and the RVIPF and their British appointed Commisioner are also
complicit in the manner. no answers no anything. Just take take take....Crooks.

Everytime you think society is operating as it should stuff like police stations not being opened during the day, government not helping its people. What is the point of submitting a report then if you can not access it?

Many things going wrong. I was just thinking did they ever catch who killed Azim Younas?

I dont know the guy & never met him but there should not be a murder in TOWN and no one is held responsible.

Back then i remember comments on this site "that was loud!". Middle of town. Yet I just don't understand how we continue talking about cameras and national security with no improvement.

After the pier park robbery there was another robbery and up to now no one is charged. Every time they send out armed officers afterwards to parade. What is the point?

Now its ghost town again. Police should be seen, an posted in specific areas, ready to offer assistance and be witness in uniform not always undercover.

There are two roads into cane garden bay. Tell me why the fudge there is not coverage 24/7 ??? Have you all practiced protocol for a total road shut down say in the case of a mentally ill person mass shooting?

This is why they cant have an ATM down on the beach because there is no security. Tourist take note. Police here is something else... the very officers have to be embarrassed to be under this less leadership.

Feel like this place is filled with imbeciles. Seriously we have no legislative sovereignty & no physical security but government & police has millions of dollars, police networks, informants, the best technology if they want it... yet the place is still going to the dump. Get it together.

You are complaining about January. I had an accident in November and still haven't receive the police report that I paid for. They need to refund me back my money since they can't produce the service.
