ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In response to the recent string of armed robberies of business establishments on Tortola, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has increased “targeted patrols” across the territory.

These measures, according to the RVIPF, are intended to enhance tactical response, deter criminal activities, and provide support to business operators and residents.

At least two business places were hit by armed robbers over the weekend. Reports are that during one of the robberies, victims were physically assaulted.

Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool acknowledged the seriousness of the incidents and their impact on public confidence and community safety.

‘Unacceptable’

“The use of firearms to threaten and intimidate members of our community is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. No business owner, employee, or member of the public should have to live or work under the threat of armed violence.

“We recognise the concerns these incidents have created, and I assure the public that we are treating these matters with the utmost seriousness,” Acting Commissioner Vanterpool stated in a police press release on October 12, 2026.

The RVIPF said investigators are actively investigating these armed robbery incidents and have developed information which has formed the basis of pursuing various lines of inquiry.

It said while specific details cannot be disclosed at this stage, the Force remains committed to arresting those responsible and bringing them before the courts.

“We are determined to bring those responsible to justice, but we cannot do so without the support of the community. I urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity to come forward. Even the smallest piece of information may be critical to our investigations. The victims in these incidents have been offered the requisite support as they navigate these traumatic encounters,” Vanterpool pleaded.
