Rebel group Alliance declares itself an official political party

Comprised of the controversial Opposition Leader Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) and fellow opposition members Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) and Hon Stacy R. Mather (AL), the Alliance was first announced in January 2025.
First described as a parliamentary alliance in the House of Assembly, the three members had said then they were not a political party.
They continued in the months that followed to be tight-lipped about whether they would become a political party until Hon Turnbull alluded to an “Alliance government” during their radio show, ‘The Pulse of the People’ in June 2025.
'This is the will of the people'- Hon Turnbull
During The Big Story on JTV Channel 55, hosted by Cathy O. Richards on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Hon Turnbull claimed the decision to move to becoming a political group was the will of the people.
He explained that over the past few months, since making the announcement of their formation, people are seeking leadership from them.
“With all the challenges that are facing the territory, we have been listening to the people of the Virgin Islands and they have been asking what is the Alliance’s position, we don’t necessarily care what this is group is saying, we want to hear from the three of you because you said you were going to work together in our best interest.”
He said it was that voice, call and beckoning from the people that pushed them to officially move The Alliance towards becoming a political group.
“So we are moving through the steps where we have formed a political alliance organisation named The Alliance…it is a political formed group,” Hon Turnbull said.
Hungry quest for power?
The decision by the three Alliance members to break away to form their own group in the Opposition was described as politically motivated, deceptive, and a hungry quest for power, particularly by Hon Walwyn, who then wrestled the Opposition Leader title away from Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL).
Commentator Claude O. Skelton-Cline had slammed the Alliance for dividing the Opposition and had warned that if it follows the trend of previous political splintering, it risks repeating past failures.
"All you have done again is splinter the splinter. It’s another splinter from 2019 to a new splinter in 2025, with the same failure consequence in any successive election," Skelton-Cline said on his Honestly Speaking show on February 3, 2025.

..bc most of u just taking up space n time..
Hon Mather please for the love of GOD come out from amongst these cr****ls those two guys are NO good.
In Fish Bay where the mangroves sigh,
You gather again with gleaming eye,
Calling it “will of the people’s hand,”
But thirst for power is all you’ve planned.
You preach of unity....sweet disguise,
While sharpening knives behind your lies.
Each handshake trembles, slick with greed,
Each promise planted grows no seed.
The Alliance split the splinters once again,
The serpent biting its own vein.
The banners change, the faces too,
But rot still smells the same in you.
You claim the people begged your name,
But they remember every game
The slogans dressed in bright attire,
The ashes cold from old desire.
The NDP, the PVIM,
And now The Alliance joins their hymn.
Three ships adrift on seas of mud,
Still chasing crowns, not common good.
Bob warned you clear as morning sun,
“Fools die for want of wisdom, son.”
“In the abundance of water, still
The fool is thirsty by his will.”
You drank from mirrors, not the stream,
Mistook your hunger for a dream.
And now you talk of hope reborn,
While reaping fields of scorn and thorn.
A house divided will not stand,
It’s built on shifting, greedy sand.
And when the ballots start to fall,
The people’s silence may say it all.
So drink, my friends, from cups of brine,
Toast to your fall, your grand decline.
The sea you ignored now floods your shore
As fools will thirst forevermore.
