ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) will travel to the United Kingdom today, July 13, 2025, to attend official meetings with the Minister for the Overseas Territories, the Honourable Stephen J. Doughty, and other UK Government officials.

The sessions are scheduled from July 14-15, 2025.

Premier Wheatley's visit forms part of the ongoing dialogue between the Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom on governance reform and other bilateral issues.

It was at a press conference on July 11, 2025, that Premier Wheatley disclosed he was set to travel to the UK.

"My upcoming meeting with Minister Doughty forms part of the comprehensive assessment process he announced during his visit in November 2024. This process includes the Governor's final review, public input, and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office feedback. I am confident these elements will affirm our Government's belief that the Virgin Islands has fulfilled the framework agreement's spirit, intent, and letter of the Framework Agreement," Premier Wheatley stated.

Premier Wheatley also said it would be “just” for the Order in Council, which would have suspended the Virgin Islands Constitution, to be lifted.

Hon Fraser is Acting Premier

According to the Government Information Service (GIS), Deputy Premier and Minister for Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Honourable Julian Fraser, RA (R3), has been appointed to act as Premier and Minister of Finance from Sunday, July 13 to Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Honourable Fraser's acting appointment is in accordance with Section 55(1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007, which states: "If the Premier is expected to be absent from the Virgin Islands for more than forty-eight hours, the Governor shall authorise the Deputy Premier to perform the functions of the office of Premier; and the Governor shall revoke this authority on the return to the Virgin Islands of the Premier."

Back and forth to London with a single overnight stay. Absurd that this cannot be done via ZOOM. And wait until we hear about the size of the accompanying "delegation" that is always along for the ride [on the taxpayers' dime, of course].

Make sure to elect someone with Fraser's ability whenever he calls it quits....His replacement must be capable of running a ministry and not being someone who will only accept a backbencher position just for the sake of being elected.

    It is not JUST anything.

It is not just the lifting of the Order in Council that is needed. We need new leadership, new ideas a better future.

Ticking boxes for COI without actually embracing the changes means nothing. You have pushed back all the way and now look at the nation.

What about actually making a change of actual behaviour. Move away from your support of Criminals and Corruption. Support fixing and maintaining thing. Look at the statements you have made on sustainability, the environment, culture and museums and educations. Take a look at what you have said and then have a look at the libraries, the museums, the culture, the roads, the water, the docks, the prospect reef, the decrepit airport terminal, the "welcome" toilet, the lack of old people services, the non operational tax office, the not functional labour portal, the childish games in HOA, the lack of travel connections to Anegada, the guns, the scooters, the tinted windows. the lack of respect for laws and regulations by leaders and people, the lack of reports, the lack of financial reports, the lack of transparancy and the airport and just about everything, the stupid concerts, the lack of accountability, the admin building, the lack of a postal service, duplication and waste in Marine safety services, the aricultural wasteland, the school thugs, the lack of a proper as recommended minimum wage, the continued use of consultants without results, the big Government cars and kickbacks, the roads, the roads, the roads, the water, water, water, continuing poor internet and criminal costs, the failiure of the DPP to bring criminals to account, lack of equipment for the hospital, the constant push, push, push for an Independence that will leave the nation impoverished and under the colonial control of a few elites and their families.

No it is not just the lifting of the Order in Council that is needed. We need new leadership, new ideas a better future.

Ticking boxes for COI without actually embracing the changes means nothing. You have pushed back all the way and now look at the nation.

It maybe that what is JUST needed is to have the main recommendation of the COI implemented.
