Premier Wheatley congratulates Barbados Prime Minister Mottley on historic win

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) has extended congratulations to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados on her re-election.

Prime Minister Mottley, 60, led the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) to a 30-0 victory in the elections on February 11, 2026. 

“Warm congratulations to Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, on her historic third consecutive victory and the enduring mandate she’s earned from the people of Barbados,” Premier Wheatley said in a post to the Premier’s Office Facebook page today, Saturday, February 14, 2025. 

He added that the Virgin Islands (VI) treasures the long-standing friendship with Barbados. 

The VI, he added, “looks forward to continued partnership and progress in trade, tourism, disaster resilience, culture, and other areas that benefit our communities and the wider Caribbean”. 

Committed to the mandate- Prime Minister Mottley

Prime Minister Mottley was sworn in on Thursday, February 12, 2026, by President Jeffrey Bostic. 

“I accept this responsibility with humility and with resolve…The people of Barbados have given me a mandate, and I am fully committed to honouring it through service and hard work,” she said after being sworn in. 

Her February 11, 2026, victory at the polls marked the third consecutive time the BLP swept the polls by winning every seat.

    I think, Premier Wheatley, you should reread the acceptance speech of this great leader, where she states, "she is there to make sure poor people, do not remain poor", not verbatimly stated!

    THIS, this type of statement, and it's actions, is what's greatly missing from your leadership, Premier!

    DO MORE, BE BETTER, BE. for the the people!
    ALL, of the people!

    Dem say Barbados in a mess and a alot of people were not able to register to vote because of the snap election. The voting process was in a mess. Bajans arenot happy with the results.
