Parents should be in custody too – Greenland resident
Prior to a press release by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) about seven juveniles being arrested for illegally entering the Francis Lettsome Primary School and damaging property, a resident of Greenland had alerted this news site to issue of a number of young persons from the community “committing the sin” against the school.
“You will hear from the police soon, I know they wouldn’t tell you all now because they are children and certain things technical,” one resident told this news site early Friday December 30, 2016. Adding “this is a issue where the community has been trying to help with these kids but the problem is with some of them parents, now look what it turn out to be, the police need to do their investigations properly and they would see that they should have some them parents in custody too.”
7 juveniles charged
Police stated in a press release yesterday, December 30, 2016 that it had charged seven juveniles, including two females, after they admitted to illegally entering the Francis Lettsome Primary School in Greenland at least three times over the holiday weekend, and engaging in widespread property damage.
The police said that four of the seven attend the primary school, while the other three are over primary school age. “The minors, between 12 and 16 years, have confessed to the burglaries as well as destroying property and occupying the premises overnight. Additional arrests are likely in this matter.”
Upon inspection, Police observed broken glass louvers, damaged roof tiles, principal’s office ransacked, students’ reports and work destroyed, sick beds and bathrooms used and flooded and juices from the kitchenette stolen with the empty containers scattered around the premises.
One of the residents who voiced concerns about this matter, a former police officer, said he fears that some parents are guilty of nourishing a new breed of criminals, which he said, “Will push the BVI further down the pit. We too small a community and we have been preaching that we need to return to a place where the community raises its children but here we have parents blocking the community from helping them with these kids.”

You are obviously too young to understand the concept of a village raising a child. Yes, I agree, some parents do try their best but those same parents will still defend the wrong doings of their children if the community steps in to try to correct the youngsters when they see them getting into mischief. The youngsters then feel they can get away with murder which they sometimes do, knowing they can run to mummy and/or daddy and they will stand up for them.
