“Ooh, aye!’ It’s Carnival time again in St. Thomas, USVI!

Friday April 19, 2013 saw the opening of the Carnival Village, “Chico’s Tropical Parad-Ice” in recognition of entrepreneur Sir Frederick “Chico” Anthony Larson.
The cutting of the ribbon was done by VI Carnival queen Adisha Penn in the presence of government officials and members of the Virgin Islands Carnival Committee, among others.
The Carnival Village consists of some 33 booths.
The real action for patrons, however, was the onstage entertainment following the opening ceremony as they did exactly what the theme for the night suggested “Bruk it Down”.
Among the artistes adding to the energy were Shurwayne Winchester, Red Lion Sounds and Pumpa and the Unit. No doubt the pace has been set for the nightly entertainment at the Carnival Village.
Other activities in celebration of VI Carnival 2013 include the annual calypso competition which saw Patrick "Soljah" Farrel taking the crown from Campbell "King Kan" Barnes at the Lionel Roberts Stadium on Thursday night, April 18.
The First Runner Up was Toby "Toby Dee" Derima while the the Second Runner Up was Cedric "King Spade" Brookes.
Meanwhile, the Virgin Islands Carnival Committee's Cultural Night was held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Lionel Roberts Stadium.
The activities for VI Carnival 2013 will come to a close on Saturday April 27, 2013 with the Adult's Parade, which is scheduled to get underway at 10 A.M. at the Western Cemetery and end at Lionel Roberts Stadium. The Adult's Parade will follow the Children's Parade and the Governor's Cup horses races to be held on April 26, 2013.
