ROAD TOWN, Tortola VI: Oliver J. Lewis, a Guyanese native and a security technical specialist who was found guilty in December 2015 of six counts of gross indecency with a 13-year-old boy, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

The sentence was handed down by the controversial Magistrate Ayanna O. Baptiste DaBreo in the lower court on October 3, 2016.  She also ordered him to compensate the family of the victim with $10,000 or spend an additional six months in prison.

Church encounter

It is reported that Mr Lewis had met the young boy in the Jehovah’s Witnesses Church on Tortola where they both attended.

The court had heard on December 3, 2015 that the Virtual Complainant, aged 13 back in 2013, said he was engaged in Bible sessions with the male defendant.

The Magistrate had maintained that whether or not the boy agreed to the alleged sexual activity, he could not give consent as he is a minor. The Magistrate had also said that the relationship between the VC and the defendant was described as a brotherly church relationship. It was revealed that on various occasions the defendant would allegedly pick the Virtual Complainant up from school and take him to his house where they would engage in homosexuality and paedophilia.

Texts & emails reveal much

There were many emails and text messages exchanged allegedly between the Virtual Complainant and the defendant. In some of them the defendant allegedly promised to buy the Virtual Complainant a cell phone. The Virtual Complainant allegedly preferred one kind over another and the defendant pleaded with him saying that he could not afford what the Virtual Complainant wanted.

In some of the texts, the defendant threatened to kill himself because of what allegedly took place between the two.

I will never understand how this type of crime get such minimal time in prison. This should be on par with murder and drugs sales if not worst!!!

Man Wize Up, I feel the same way. The only thing is the hacksaw is to fast. I will remove the testies with a dull rusted knife then stuff the area with scotch bonnet peppers.

not dog again. This is a problem because it is an identity associated with personal opinion. While I happen to agree with this one, it is not fair that an identity was stolen. It can confuse people who want to hear what people have to say. What if I started to call myself Scary Mary, Pete or some other regular poster? Is that fair?

You mean an Ex-Witness. Anyone who know the witnesses, they don't condone this type of behavior. He is totally wrong for doing this to this child.

The 3 1/2 years should be for sodomy alone.
Another 3 1/2 years for rape.

So he said that prison is not for him. Is he serious? He committed this horrible deed against this boy and he expects what? To walk? Well, maybe they need to put him on suicide watch because short of a jail break, pretty boy ain't going nowhere.

Its like the punishments for crime in the BVI is backwards. it seems the more minor the crime the higher cost you pay, and the more heinous the crime, the lesser punishment is givin... u catch somebody with two dime bag, its 12 years jail or 500,000 fine (exaggerating), but u have this lil anty man playin with lil boys booties and he get a lil three u kno how this man may have ruined that boys life for the rest of his got enough gay men in the island he could've easy find one of them to play up with... I have nothing against gays... BUT CHILDREN!!!!! disgusted.
