‘Of course it was a sick-out’- Skelton-Cline on nurses’ absenteeism
Nurses at clinics in Road Town, Jost van Dyke, and Long Look were absent from work on March 11 and 12, which coincided with a visit from accreditors.
The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), in a statement on March 12, 2026, said that while aware that several community health staff members had reported sick, it had not received any formal notification of industrial action or organised protest. The matter was said to be under investigation.
Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) also confirmed the absence of nurses at the various clinics. He said he had not received any explanation when he inquired.
Of course it’s a sick-out- Skelton-Cline
However, Skelton-Cline, during his show on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, said, “They’re investigating whether or not there was a sick-out during the time the accreditation people were here; going to three clinics, nurses ain’t there. Of course, it’s a sick-out. They ain’t been paid for 12 years. You have the review that was completed before this whole budget was passed.”
He also said, the blame does not fall solely on the current Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government as “this 12 years cut across government”.
Skelton-Cline also opined that nurses and doctors are moving out of the BVIHSA into private systems. There, he said, they are properly treated and compensated.
“That’s what’s happening. How do you think people can make it like that? People have families.”
The BVIHSA has not made public the results of its investigation into the nurses’ absenteeism, if it has already been completed.

as the minister for health, you are tasked with many things where health is concern, and one of your hinchmen is cultivating the worst health issues on the little island of vg. how can you as the minister pass the road every day and look at that pile of dirt that he has stored in that residential area among people. is that dirt clean , where did it come from, does it have parasites or germs that will cause illness to the residents in that area. how can one person do so much wrong according to the law and no one giving any citations or fines . i am sure the residents in that area cried out to you the health minister and other gvernment officials about that issue and nothing has been done. this is what causes break down in this country, only some can break the law and no one says anything about it. there is a restaurant just below that messy nasty looking dirt pile that serves food. have anyone went to these individuals and even sit and ask them how this is affecting them.
asking questions you will hear where some of this dirt comes from, digging holes in the island and extracting the soil to store and filling the holes with trash and covering them with soil is illegal and causes sink holes . some one needs to investigate this guy and make right by the residents in the area.
vincent if you cant control your people that is breaking the law in your face the governor will need to step in and do whats right by the people. its ashame and this is not finish.
more to come on this issue, questions will be asked and the necessary officials will be notified and someything must be done .
now try open your eyes and do whats is reght for the health sector of the country, we are too small to be having these issues and in such an important sector in the country.
