ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI— Governor of the Virgin Islands, His Excellency Daniel Pruce, has downplayed reports of a recent incident involving himself and his 'wife' at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on April 29, 2025, saying no complaint has been put to him directly.

'I accepted his apology'- Gov Pruce

Governor Pruce was at the time responding to direct questions from a member of the press during a media engagement at Government House on May 9, 2025.

He said: "No particular request of that sort has been put to me directly.”

Exlaining further, he reiterated, “No complaint has been put to me personally. Obviously, if that were to happen, then I would totally discuss and reflect on that with whoever was bringing such complaints or a direct approach.”

Providing an explanation for the incident, he told media operatives, “...so, up at the airport last week, as you would have seen from the reporting, there was a delay at the check-in counter, which the counter staff resolved and I was grateful to them for doing so and thanked them at the time.”

'Shocking to see'

According to the Governor, “While that delay was occurring, a fellow passenger made a comment which wasn’t appropriate and for which he subsequently apologised, and I accepted his apology. And that was what happened. Those were the circumstances.”

According to eyewitness accounts and reports at the time, the Governor reportedly lost his composure when it became apparent that his wife/partner might not secure a seat on the standby flight. Multiple sources claimed that Governor Pruce engaged in aggressive behaviour, standing in the check-in line for over 20 minutes in what appeared to be an attempt to block other passengers from being processed.

The situation is said to have escalated to the point where a near-physical confrontation ensued after a fellow passenger attempted to move past the Governor.

“It was shocking to see someone in his position behave that way,” an eyewitness told our newsroom on condition of anonymity. “He was visibly irritated and seemed determined that his partner had to make that flight no matter what. It didn’t feel diplomatic at all.”

In the immediate aftermath of the incident, a spokesperson from the Governor’s Office issued a short statement that read, “There was a delay checking in the Governor’s wife for her flight this morning. The Governor was grateful for the airport counter staff’s efforts to successfully resolve this issue. During this delay, another passenger made a comment for which he subsequently apologised. The Governor accepted that apology.”
