BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- “I am more convinced now than ever before that the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition should not go anywhere together to negotiate this constitution.” These were the words of social commentator Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline during his weekly radio show, Honestly Speaking, on ZBVI 780 AM, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

On the episode titled, ‘The Future’ is Now', Pastor Skelton-Cline reiterated his stance on Opposition Leader Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) accompanying Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) to the United Kingdom (UK) for constitutional talks.

This solidification of his opinion came after listening to both Premier Wheatley and Hon Walwyn during the recent House of Assembly sitting, where the 2022-2023 Constitution Review Commission Report was debated.

They are not in agreement

Pastor Skelton-Cline has previously shared this view on his show in June 2025, during which he warned that the two men were not truly amicable with each other due to his own observations.

The Constitution Review Report suggested that the word ‘indigenous’ in the Constitution be replaced with ancestral Virgin Islanders, a section most members of the HoA were not opposed to, with some even expressing their pride in being an indigenous Virgin Islander.

This section, however, struck a nerve with Hon Walwyn, who sought to play down being an indigenous Virgin Islander and not being worth much.

Pastor Skelton-Cline during Tuesday’s show said, “They’re not on the same page, they’re not going to be in agreement, and we’re going to sit before the UK divided and run the risk of coming up less than what we have had in our 2007 constitution.”

Change the Opposition Leader just for a time

The open critic of both the ruling government and the opposition added that he is past being concerned and is now scared by this situation.

“If for no other reason and if for a moment, I don’t know if it’s the member for the Second District, I don’t know if it’s the member for the Eighth District, or the At-Large member, but you all need to get together and you all need to have a change in the leadership of the opposition if only for a moment and if only for this purpose of negotiating the 2007 constitution, else.”

Pastor Skelton-Cline added that if this is not done, he will continue to call for the negotiation of the constitution to be stalled from any platform or podium he speaks.

“I’m just being lovingly honest with you as I can.”
