BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Social commentator and host of the weekly radio show, Honestly Speaking, Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline has said Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and Opposition Leader Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6) should not represent the Virgin Islands (VI) together.

On Honestly Speaking on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Skelton-Cline said, “It is clear to me that the Premier of this country and the Leader of the Opposition are at complete odds.”

“They are getting ready to debate and then ultimately send a team, of which the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition would be a part, in the negotiation of the constitution with the United Kingdom of these Virgin Islands.”

‘These ingredients make for a bad stew’

Premier Wheatley and Hon Walwyn recently attended the 7th Sitting of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Assembly on Tuesday, June 16, 2025, in St Vincent and the Grenadines, along with Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly Dr the Hon Karl Dawson (R1).

However, Mr Skelton-Cline said that the current difference in opinions of Premier Wheatley and Hon Walwyn will not augur well in discussions with the United Kingdom.

Hon Walwyn has been criticised for showing a complete lack of faith in the checks and balances systems in the territory by calling on Governor Daniel Pruce to intervene in the Bank of Asia (BVI) Limited fiasco.

“I am too discerned and too woke and too enlightened to see that the nature of this relationship and the pursuit that not relenting, how this and these ingredients are going to make for a bad stew.”

He questioned the ability of both Premier Wheatley and Hon Walwyn to properly and effectively represent the VI if they do not agree.

“How they going to work together if they don’t agree? How they going to hold hands if they don't get along?”

‘Do tell us that boldface lie’

Pastor Skelton-Cline also warned both Premier Wheatley and Hon Walwyn of making false public statements about them being amicable with each other in response to his observation.

“Ain’t no need for you all to rush to the mic and come tell me and this country that you are getting along and it’s going to be fine, don’t tell us that boldface lie because you’re going to make us even more nervous than we already are.”

He reiterated that the people of the VI cannot allow Premier Wheatley and Hon Walwyn to go anywhere together to discuss the VI’s constitutional matter.

Pastor Skelton-Cline also said he will reveal what he believes should be done on the next Honestly Speaking.

In unity there is strength, unless it is meant divide and conquer-depends on which side you on.

You hear what Mrs P said, look about the country first before you go talk about independence, that's what lavety stout was doing, building the college and doing other things to be independent, and by the way Myron is more competent in understanding the legal framework that the British usually pull over it's territory eye, they will write a document which elongate colonialism in a subtle way. They will never leave us, all independent countries in the Caribbean swear allegiance to the queen and uk, it is jealousy that the alliance will make a great impact in the BVI history is what Claude is suffering from, all the Caribbean opposition accompany the government of the day for negotiation with the murderous thieving UK because you want opposite idea to the present ideas presented by the government to contend because there is no independence to gain unless you shed blood for it, what you will get is token independence where the UK write your future limitations or boundaries as they require you to give full allegiance to them.
Myron is more qualified as a minister to be there, along with the attorney general and I suspect the premier got to retain a private council. And there should be consultation with the people whom we say we are representing, they can't be leave in oblivion as natalio Wheatley and his brother is doing. I commend the brothers though, not a bad idea but I think they are trying to impose themselves into history, because they know lavety stout was not completely the father of the nation, so they want to do it. And putting the horse before the cart, take all you can get from uk and build your country first to stand on its own that when we finally go independent we would even move away from the monarchy system and be republic,

Myron is so smart that he has outsmarted himself with the stupid move trying to form a new party in the BVI with two light weights. Copy this post so you can remember it in 12-18mths. Being knowledgeable and speaking well means your intelligent, but it doesn't mean you are smart. Smart people always win!

Why these very expensive trips (holidays)to even mention independence until the people are asked if that is what they want for their country?

I think everybody trying to move full speed ahead with their agenda for their own reasons with this topic without nothing to show that this is what the people of the BVI actually want; its like they don't think the people of the BVI should have any say in what BVI's relationship with the UK should be and I think its wrong. How you even reach to discussion with the UK about what BVI want and you have not even come to the people to find out what they want. Its because you don't care what they want only what YOU want matters.

ON CONSTITUTIONAL TALKS , THEY WILL BE REPRESENTING THE SAME COUNTRY , NOT TO HOLD HANDS , THEY MAY NOT AGREE ON EVERYTHING , BUT THEY ARE NOT IN ANY WAR ( AS THIS WANNABE PSYCHIC IS INSINUATING ) AND CAN WORK TOGETHER IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE PEOPLE AND THE COUNTRY, BOTH ARE VERY INTELLIGENT SO WHY IS THIS HUSTLER WHO SHOULD BE PROMOTING UNITY AND HARMONY , IS TRYING HIS BEST TO CREATE DIVISION / THIS DUDE IS A EVIL INDIVIDUAL ~ THE DEVIL HAS YOUR SOUL

They are not going there to score political points. They are going there to chart a course for the country. If they cannot get together as grown me and decide on an agenda to be achieved before hand, then none of them should be going to the London.

Let me say it here. Claude Skelton is a misguided fool. The two people do not have to agree to do the business of the Territory. It is consensus that matters not agreement. Claude think he know but knows not. Just like he is prating about the Bank of Asia issue. Sometimes it's not wise to speak out of school. Claude thinks he can speak on every topic but know little about much. He should just stick to what he knows. Come to think of it, what does he know?

It’s straightforward: it doesn’t matter who physically represents us at the constitutional review. What’s essential is that the needs and desires of the Virgin Islands (VI) should be a unified agreement between the Government and the Opposition, established well before they attend the constitutional meeting. Key figures, such as the Premier, the Opposition Leader, and knowledgeable constitutional lawyers, should engage in a series of discussions and debates that lead to a consensus. This consensus should reflect the interests of the VI people moving forward, rather than the ideologies of individuals in temporary positions of power..
